OUR TOWN OF WINDING WAYSBob O’Connell

Hi Folks! Now that the pool is open we hope everyone has a joy-

ful summer! We are going to be open the whole month of June as we have not in previous years. Hopefully the water will warm up so you can swim and make good use of it.

everybody has received a copy of the Winding Ways Rules and Regulations at one time. Although I don’t expect you to memorize them I should hope you would have an idea as to what is in them. A lot of the constant harsh calls that the office receives on a daily bases can be solved by opening up the rules and regulations book and seeing what can and cannot be done. You can question some of the rules because you don’t understand them. Any member of the board can answer your questions. unfortunately the office staff, Maria & Diane, receive far too many calls of an ag-gressive nature. These girls work extremely hard keeping this community the way it is and the cost down so we can all enjoy what we have.

the beautification Committee, led by Christina Zito has been working very diligently to design a planting bed for the entrance at the north side of the pool, where the two large pine trees were removed. i think you will find in the upcoming weeks, it will add to the beauty of the pool entrance.

We are surveying the roads now to see if some of the roads need to be repaved. The storm drains have been cleaned out (115 of them). Please refrain from throwing plastic bags with dog droppings in the storm drains as they end up it the catch basins. Anyone seen doing this may be subject to a fine.

Here is hoping we have a pleasant, warm and wonder-ful Summer!

NEWS and VIEWS June, 2018 5

This month I’d like to highlight another rule of composition – leading lines. Including a leading line will draw the viewer into your photo and hold their attention. examples would be a road, fence, or river that starts in one corner of the image and

moves towards the center. These leading lines keep your image from being static and give them more dimensionality.

As with all photographic rules “Leading Lines” are very good guidelines, but they’re not

etched in stone. use your creativity to produce photos that appeal to you. Step back and have another look after taking a shot or two and see if a different angle or approach will make a better (or different) image.

That’s it for this month. As always, you can send me an email at [email protected] if you have any photographic questions. You can see more of my images by visiting my my website, www.kirmsphotography.com. keep shooting and trying to improve your images, but most importantly, have fun with your camera.

COMMUNITY MANAGERMaria Ingato

GARBAGe PICk uP IS NOW BACk TO TueSDAYS AND FRIDAYS!

Well spring is upon us in full swing and summer is around the corner! With that comes the clean-up, sprinklers and grass issues.

• Please call the management office with any concerns regarding your sprinklers. if you have a broken head resulting in a water fountain but it turns off with the rest of the heads, call the office first thing the following morning and we will address the repairs needed! should this fountain remain on after all the other sprinklers have turned off, please call the FirstService emergency number to report this right away.

• all grass issues such as missed cuts and damage should be reported to the office right away. We have the contractor on site Monday – Friday (weather permitting) which allows us to address these issues with the contractor right away.

The pool is now open 7 days a week. The hours for allowable swimming are: Memorial Day to June 22nd for afternoon swims from 1pm – 4pmJune 23rd through September 3rd normal hours of 10:30am – 6pm

September 4 – 7 the pool hours will be 2:30pm – 6:30pmLast weekend September 8-9 the hours will be 10:30am – 5pm

The pool area is open for use at any time but there is absolutely no swimming allowed when lifeguards are not present! Although no pool passes are required, all guests must be accompanied by a resident at all times. This includes the pool area, surrounding amenities and the clubhouse itself. REMEMBER: You must use a FOB to access the pool at the north and south pool gate and to gain re-entry to the clubhouse through the locker rooms!!! There is also a PUSH BUTTON at each gate to EXIT.

the office received a lot of calls asking us when is the recycling pick up? We are putting the schedule again in this issue of the News & Views. You can also pick up a schedule from the lobby at any time!

Remember that if you would like to participate in the bus rides to the mall and food shopping centers you MUST call management by 5pm the night before the bus picks you up or you cannot participate for that trip.

Please remember to forward all your questions and requests to the Management Office either via phone, email or in person NOT to the Board of Trustees directly. When necessary, your concerns should be brought to the attention of the board through this office.

Please be courteous and pick up after your pets!! This is becoming a big problem in the community. Pet waste disposal bags are available in dispensers placed throughout the community!! Placing the bags in storm drains is unacceptable. Pet waste may distribute disease!

To all our June Birthday Celebrants!

You are invited to join The Winding Ways Book Club which meets on the 4th Thursday of each month at 10:30am in the Library.

On Thursday, June 28, 10:30 am we will discuss Night Circus by erin Morgenstern. It has been called the kind of novel that will appeal to romantics, history buffs, circus aficionados, mystery fans, and lovers of a good story.

The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an ut-terly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. but behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway: a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. unbeknownst to them both, this is a game in which only one can be left standing. Despite the high stakes, Celia and Marco soon tumble headfirst into love, setting off a domino effect of dangerous consequences, and leaving the lives of everyone, from the performers to the patrons, hanging in the balance.

reading ahead? July’s book: Wright Brothers by David McCullough. All are welcome to join us. Books are made available to us through the Ocean County Library (or you can obtain your own copy). For more information about our Book Club contact Jane earle (732-928-2318).

THE LIGHTER SIDE….

PURINA DOG CHOW

Yesterday I was at Costco, buying a large bag of Purina dog chow for my loyal pet, Owen, the wonder dog, and was in the check-out line when a woman behind me asked if I had a dog. What did she think i had, an elephant?

So because I’m retired and have little to do, on impulse, I told her that no, I didn’t have a dog, I was starting the Pu-rina Diet again. I added that I probably shouldn’t, because I ended up in the hospital last time, but that I lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and iV’s in both arms.

I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way that it works is to load your pants pockets with Purina Nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry. the food is nutritionally complete, (certified), so it works well and I was going to try it again. (I have to mention here that practically everyone in line was now enthralled with my story.)

Horrified, she asked if i ended up in intensive care because the dog food poisoned me. I told her no, I had stopped to pee on a fire hydrant and a car hit me.

Well, I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack he was laughing so hard.

Costco won’t let me shop there anymore. Better watch what you ask retired people. They have all the time in the world to think of crazy things to say.
