WHAT’S THIS ABOUT??

If you’ve recently upgraded to Windows 10, you’re probably still manoeuvring yourself around all the new features and figuring out which settings you prefer. In the process of getting to know Windows 10 , you may have stumbled across a feature called Wi-Fi Sense and as your local IT experts we believe it is our duty to explain why we believe you should disable the feature, to maintain your IT security!

TOP TIPS FOR SECURING YOUR IT INFRASTRUCTURE:WHAT IS WI-FI SENSE?

Wi-Fi sense allows you to share your Wi-Fi password with your contacts, automatically connecting you to your friends through Wi-Fi if you are in range. This means people can connect to your Wi-Fi network without being prompted for a password.

IS WIFI-SENSE A SECURITY RISK?

If you care about security more than convenience like us at Data Productions, you should disable Wi-Fi Sense.

If you use Windows 10’s ‘Express’ settings during installation, you automatically opt in to sharing your Wi-Fi password with anyone in your Skype, Outlook and Facebook.

Unfortunately you can’t select individual contacts to share with; it’s an all or nothing option across a social network. Ask yourself, do you want ALL of your contacts having a gateway to your privacy?

HOW TO DISABLE WI-FI SENSETo disable Wi-Fi Sense, you will need to go to ‘Windows Settings’, select ‘Network & Internet’ and click ‘Change Wi-Fi Settings’ and then ‘Manage Wi-Fi Settings’.

From here, you can change a wide variety of settings. We recommend you turn OFF everything under the Wi-Fi Sense heading; you will then be protected and in full control of who has access to your Wi-Fi network!
