Presentation Notes
In summer, it is better to protect the window from excessive solar radiation. In addition motorised windows can be used to cool down naturally the house in particular during spring and fall. It is commonly called free cooling. So an efficient control strategy can minimise the cooling demand.

This chart here shows the result of simulation with an interior roller blind white with one side aluminium coated. The black line shows the temperature inside the room without solar protection or air conditioning system. You can see that the maximum temperature is around 41°C which is to compare with the 27°C. It is the effect of the glass surface. The line in pink shows the effect only of the automated blinds. The maximum temperature is reduced by around 11°C. Air conditionning is still required to bring the temperature into the confort zone of 21°C to 26°C but the demand is greatly reduced.

Presentation Notes
This slide shows the interior temperature evolution throughout the year. The automated roller blind has a positive effect to reduce the maximum temperature, -7°C, an the cooling demand. One interesting observation is that cooling is not really required during December to March period as the temperatures fall within the confort zone.

• Most LEDs use a product called a Driver to deliver either• Constant Current • Constant Voltage• Driver vary by fixture/ fixture manufacture

Various methods for controlling LEDs

• These are the most common methods of controlling LEDs• Phase Control (standard dimming)• 0‐10 VDC• DMX512 (normally for RGB control/ Color mixing)• PWM • DALI

Please note: There are no standards that are applied to the control of LED Lighting and these are not the only control methods in use today

Page 41: Windows 7 Shade Control LED Control Welcome Vantage Dealersdealer.vantagecontrols.com/support/Dealer Web... · Windows 7 Shade Control LED Control Welcome Vantage Dealers February

LED ControlShade ControlWindows 7

•Phase Control•LED luminaires are fed with line‐voltage AC power feeds, or by the secondary of a transformer.

•Phase‐control dimming will either be forward‐phase (Standard Dimmer) or reverse‐phase (Electronic Dimmer)

•A load profile is recommended for each LED Fixture

•A single luminaire may or may not be sufficient load to meet minimum load requirements, which are:

•Standard dimming module: 7W

•ScenePoint dimmer: 15W

•Enspire universal dimmer: 25W

Various methods for controlling LEDs

Page 42: Windows 7 Shade Control LED Control Welcome Vantage Dealersdealer.vantagecontrols.com/support/Dealer Web... · Windows 7 Shade Control LED Control Welcome Vantage Dealers February

LED ControlShade ControlWindows 7

• Low Voltage Control (0‐10VDC)• One common dimming control method used by these drivers is a 0‐10VDC signal

• The dimmed level will vary with the level of the applied control voltage

• Vantage LVOS offers variable DC control• The LVOS DC profile is adjustable from within InFusion Design Center to match a 0‐12VDC or other range that might be encountered (up to 14V)

• The LVOS is capable of switching either line‐voltage or low‐voltage

• DMX512• This protocol was developed for theatrical lighting • This is a commonly used protocol for three‐color LEDs, to set the color and intensity of light

Various methods for controlling LEDs

Page 43: Windows 7 Shade Control LED Control Welcome Vantage Dealersdealer.vantagecontrols.com/support/Dealer Web... · Windows 7 Shade Control LED Control Welcome Vantage Dealers February

LED ControlShade ControlWindows 7

• PWM• PWM (Pulse‐width modulation) is a method of control similar to 0‐10VDC• The control voltage stays constant, but the “duty cycle” varies to control dimming levels

• In a given duty cycle, the percentage of time the voltage is applied, compared to the percentage of time the voltage is turned off, is the signal given to set the desired dimming level

• DALI• There are some LED drivers that converse in DALI, a standards‐based protocol

• This protocol was developed for commercial lighting
