“ “Survey of 30,000 laptopslists ASUS as top ofreliability rankingsIn November 16th, 2009, SquareTrade, the largest independent warranty service provider in the United States, published a report that analyzed the failure rates of over 30,000 new notebook computers manufactured by the leading 9 notebook brands over the past 3 years. A minimum of 1000 unit notebooks of each brand was sampled.

With 3 year malfunction rates to be under 16%, laptops from ASUS are nearly 40% more reliable than Hewlett-Packard, the worst performer in this study. The industry leader HP, which shipped nearly 16 million laptops in the past year according to IDC, ranked dead last in this reliability study with over one-fourth of laptops expected to malfunction in 3 years. Gateway and Acer, the No.2 maker of laptops, were also nearly as unreliable as HP, with an expected malfunction rate of over 23%.
