“Come quickly, I am drinking the stars!” a quote attributed to Benedictine monk, Dom Perignon on his discovery of Champagne. A discovery which may or may not be true but, however you look at it, Champagne must be the result of a glorious accident! The British manage to knock back around 28m bottles a year so it must be good.

Our house Champagne is from Didier Chopin. Since 1989 Didier has worked on his estate and now, with his wife and two children, he produces around 200k bottles a year.

9707 El Supremo Malbec Mendoza 2017/18 12 x 75clMalbec grown in the Rio Mendoza area, some 650 metres above sea level. A dark ruby red colour with complex aromas of raspberries, cherries and plums with a hint of violets. ABV 13.0%.

9486 Picada P15 Malbec, Patagonia 2018/19 12 x 75clPicada 15 takes its name from a dusty old road in the Chanar Valley, Patagonia. This 100% Malbec is deep purple with aromas of Morello cherries, ripe plums and a subtle hint of violets. ABV 14.0%.

Altitude is the key to the quality of wines from ARGENTINA. High up on terraced vineyards the grapes receive plenty of warmth during the day and cool nights which extend the ripening season. This is evident in the concentration of the stunning Malbec wines. A grape that originated in Cahors, France has become the signature fruit for Argentine winemaking.

CHILE is a long, thin county bordered in the west by the Pacific Ocean and in the east the spectacular Andes Mountain range. This topography is a gift to the wine industry; plenty of water from the mountains, misty maritime micro-climates and 265 days of sunshine every year! Here, some of the world’s best-known grapes thrive.

Almost three quarters the size of France, CALIFORNIA accounts for nearly 90 percent of American wine production. The production of wine in California is one third larger than that of Australia. The White Zinfandel (Rosé) is one of the states most popular easy drinking wines.

Like Italy, Spain has an incredible choice when it comes to wine producing grapes with over 400 varieties growing. However, 80% of all Spanish wines come from only 20 grape varieties. Apart from the white Airen grape, which is used to produce Spanish brandy, the Tempranillo grape is the most planted, making superb red wines in Rioja, Ribera del Duero and Penedes.
