Saturday, June 12, 2010 Showmanship Clinic at Fairgrounds, 9:00a.m.-3:00p.m. Tentative Schedule: Talk by judge and mini practice show, possible vet speaker; clipping demo. I am working on having a vet come and speak to our group at either the May meeting or be a part of the showmanship clinic on June 12. More details to follow on the clinic. Watch for email or letter to be sent out as event draws closer.

There is a dog training and orientation meeting Thursday May 20 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the James P. Coughlin Center, 625 E. County Road Y in Oshkosh. All youth participating in 4-H dog training classes are required to attend. Please do not bring your dogs. We will collect and finalize the dog training registration forms, project fees and copies of rabies certificates and vaccination records. The dog training registration forms will be mailed to all youth enrolled in the dog project prior to the May 20 meeting. Please fill them out, sign them and have your parents sign them before you come to the meeting. Bring completed registration form, a check for your dog training fees and a copy for me to keep of each dog’s current rabies certificate and DHLPP vaccination record(s) to this meeting also. Fees for the first family member is $25. Fees for each additional family member is $15. These fees cover the cost of the training building rental, awards, trophies, training equipment, miscellaneous supplies for

training and putting on the dog show at our Fair. Dog training is held each Thursday at the Oshkosh Kennel Club starting Thursday May 27 and continuing through July 29. Obedience will be offered from 6:30 pm to 7:15 pm and Junior Showmanship will be offered from 7:15 pm to 7:45 pm. The Oshkosh Kennel Club and Winnegamie Dog Club dog shows are May 22 and 23 at the Sunnyview Exposition Center & Fairgrounds in Winnebago County. Please consider attending. There is no admission fee, but there is a small parking fee.

Information form along with your county fair entries! These forms are used to review entries to ensure animals are entered in correct classes. They are also used to create the show catalog.
This year there will be a slightly modified dairy herdsmanship scorecard, with the following point break-downs: Preparation of Exhibit (25 points); Condition of Animals (30 points); Care of Exhibit (30 points); Conduct of Exhibitors (15 points).
The Dairy Clipping Contest and entry is made by on separate entry form, NOT on your county fair entry form. The purple Clipping Contest entry form, which includes information and all the rules for the contest, were distributed with other fair entry materials. Open to all junior dairy exhibitors, the contest sponsored by the 4-H Dairy Committee is on Tuesday, August 3, 6:00p.m., in the Show Arena on the fairgrounds. Entry or pre-registration for the Decorate to Educate program is NOT required. Club dairy leaders and/or other club dairy representatives should have received a mailing explaining this incentive program sponsored by the Dairy Farmers of Winnebago County through the Winnebago County Farm Bureau® and the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board. You can earn $25 or $50 for your club’s dairy exhibit expenses.

Sheboygan County 4-H Goat Show at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth on Saturday, June 5, 2010. The show is a ―fun‖ show, and entrants can choose to compete in both breed and showmanship classes. The judge is Al Shook, a licensed Wisconsin County Fair Judge. The show is open to all youth up to the age 18. Wisconsin Youth Livestock has New Website and Facebook Page The Wisconsin Youth Livestock Program has developed a new website and facebook page to publicize current information of youth events and programs in Wisconsin.
To access the website go to http://fyi.uwex.edu/youthlivestock/. You can subscribe to this website to receive emails when new information has been posted. On the home page, in the upper right of the page, there is box where you can subscribe by typing in your email address. The facebook page is called ―Wisconsin Youth Livestock Program‖. Search by this name while in the www.facebook.com website. Become a fan to receive updates of youth livestock events and programs.

4-H Speaking & Demonstration Contest On Tuesday March 30, the annual 4-H Speaking and Demonstration Contest was held at Webster Stanley Middle School in Oshkosh. The contest was for all youth grades K5-12. Approximately 75 youth from throughout the county participated in the event.
Youth gave speeches and/or demonstrations on topics ranging from ―My Sister‖ to ―Why 5
th Graders should have Cell Phones.‖ All speakers
received certificates for their participation in the event. Cloverbud youth, grades K5-2 received participation ribbons. First, second, and third place trophies were awarded in all other divisions.

The statewide 4-H Arts Camp for 6-8 graders is October 2-3, 2010 at Camp Upham Woods, Wisconsin Dells. Youth come together to explore and participate in the exciting world of the arts: theatre and drama, photography, communication, music, visual art, juggling and MORE! Campers will learn plenty of creative ideas to

Duck Identification is a difficult subject, but Warden Tom Truman from the Wisconsin DNR and his son taught us how to do it easier. They had a lot of visual aids and hand-outs. We saw the different sizes and colors of wings. It will be very helpful when watching ducks. Thanks to Tom and his son for the great presentation. Red Simpson, from Simpson’s Taxidermy showed us his craft. Everything from cleaning the hide to painting the final mount. The mounts he brought in were very nice and in various stages of completion. Red has his shop in Winneconne where you can make arrangements with him to see other works, or set up something for yourself. On March 27 and April 3, we were at Critter’s Wolf River Sports in Winneconne. We had a terrific turnout, filling up the range the first week. Please thank Critter and Woodeye for the use of their facility.
Winnebago Archers will be holding another youth shoot on June 19. It is held at their range at 5146 W. Breezewood Lane west of Neenah. There is a small cost, but the participants will receive prizes. It is open to youth up to 16 years old. The club number is 920-836-1804. When we get more details, we will pass them on to you.

4-H Expansion & Review Committee Reforming Each county 4-H program is to have an active 4-H Expansion and Review committee that reviews the status of the 4-H program, determine ways to expand and reach new audiences, and then to re-evaluate progress toward the expansion goals indentified by the committee. Your help is needed! Older youth (grades 7
th and up) and 4-H leaders/parents
are needed to serve on this committee, as well as community members. The committee’s first meeting is Monday, May 10 at 6:30p.m. at the JPCC. A follow-up meeting will be approximately 4 months later. If you’re interested serving on the committee or know of a community member (youth or adult) that would be good, please contact René.
Help the 4-H Newsletter go ―Green‖ You’re able to receive the 4-H newsletter via an email announcement that it’s been posted on the 4-H website. You will no longer receive a copy in the mail, just the email notification that the newsletter has been posted. This helps save on copy and postage costs. Ambassador News By: Chris Kuehnl The all county bowling night in March was very successful. We had over fifty bowlers! Everybody had a great time, and thanks to everybody for their help!

Fair Entry Information Please be patient and work with the Winnebago County Fair Association as we enter the 21
st Century and a new
way of Entering Your Fair Projects. The Premium Book is on the Winnebago County Fair’s
website: www.winnebagocountyfaironline.com. You
will find it under the Link – 2010 Fair Book. All the Rules and Departments are listed. You will be able to print anything that pertains to you from that site. To enter Fair Projects, you will need to go to the Winnebago County Fair’s website: www.winnebagocountyfaironline.com. On the Website,
you will click on the Link - ―Fair Entries on Line‖ Click Here. This will link you to ShoWorks where you will enter your projects for the Fair. If you exhibited at the Fair last year, your personal information should already be there. If you are a new member in 4-H, or if this is your first year showing at the Fair, you will have to enter all of your information. A $2.00 exhibitor registration fee will be charged. A password will be provided to each Club or Organization to be able to view your information. We are asking that each Club or Organization appoint one or two members/leaders to enter the information. All Fair Entries are due by Thursday, June 24 at 4:30 p.m. At that time, you will no longer be able to enter your project(s) on ShoWorks. Late Entries will not be accepted. To prevent problems later, read and review all fair rules. If you have questions completing your fair entry form, talk with your club or project leader, or the Extension Office at 920-232-1974. If you have questions in regard to ShoWorks, call Julie Barthels at 920-426-5811. It’s much easier to answer questions than to fix problems later.

Get your Winnebago County Fair Signs Help promote the Winnebago County Fair as the Fair Board is once again providing signs for the 2010 Winnebago County Fair. The Extension Office has signs available. Stop on by to pick yours up.
Booth at the Fair If your club or 4-H activity is planning on having a booth at the Winnebago County Fair, call the Extension Office to reserve a space. Booths can be for premium or just for show (like summer camp). If your booth is for premium, it must be entered on ONE youth’s fair entry form, under Department 35. Details are under Department 35 on the online Fair Book at http://www.winnebagocountyfaironline.com/2010_Fair_Book.html.
New Fair Exhibitor/Family Orientation The 4-H program is once again sponsoring a New Fair Exhibitor/Family Orientation on Thursday, July 29 at 7:00p.m. at the Expo Building. The orientation is to help members and families get acquainted with the fair before entry and judging days. All new (or newer) fair exhibitors and their families are invited to attend.
Youth and adult volunteers are needed to plan and lead the orientation program. Entry day and judging can be overwhelming, especially to new fair exhibitors. Volunteers will welcome participants, give an overview of what to expect, answer questions, share their experiences, conduct a mock judging experience. Contact René if you are interested or have questions in being part of the fair orientation team!

Please help at the 4-H Dipper!!! The 4-H Dipper is the 4-H Food Stand at the Winnebago County Fair. The 4-H Dipper provides at least 30% of the income for the 4-H Leaders’ Association Budget. The Spring Pizza sale earned $1500 less than budgeted, so it’s critical for the 4-H Dipper to do well. This means workers are needed as well as people to eat at the Dipper. If you can’t work the shift assigned to your club, please feel free to work another – ALL HELP IS WELCOMED!
4-H Dipper Update Its that time of year again 4-Her's!!! The Dipper Committee is in need of help. The Dipper Committee does much of the behind the scenes work at the Dipper. We meet only 2-3 times a year. We have jobs big and small, so don't be afraid to step up and help out. 2010 Cloverbud Camp Hey Cloverbuds! Guess what time it is? Camp time! Cloverbud camp is July 13, 14 and the evening of July 15. It will be held at the Oshkosh Town Hall on Cty Rd Y (same as past years). The cost is only $15.00! Invite your friends. Campers can be 4-H and non 4-H members. 4-H Summer Camp Camp staff have been busy planning another great year of 4-H camp! Come join us on an under water adventure! 4-H Camp is Thursday, July 8 - Sunday, July 11. The registration form is on our website http://winnebago.uwex.edu/4h/index.html. Cost is $60 per 4-H member and $130 for non 4-H members. Camperships are available to help off-set cost of camp, if requested. Camp is for youth in grades 3-8. Outpost Camp, a rustic camping experience for 6-8 grade, is for those campers looking for more of an adventure! 4-H camp is open to all 4-H and non 4-H youth. Ridgeway 4-H invites you, your family and friends, to attend a hot air balloon demonstration. When: Tuesday June 8, 6:30PM - 8:00PM at Winnebago County Park, 501 E. County Rd Y, Oshkosh, Rugby field between shelter 2 & 3. Rain/windy location: UW-Extension Office, 625 E County Rd Y. Come rain or shine and experience first hand how to
launch a hot air balloon. This is a hands on opportunity to be an active member of a balloon crew. A local pilot will demonstrate start to finish how to launch his balloon, Midnight Rainbow. EXCELLENT photo ops for anyone in photography project. Questions can be directed to Dan at 920-232-1974.

White Cedars—Ashleigh Jones, Secretary The February meeting was called to order by President Jacob LaMarche. The pledges were led by Zach Henderson and Andrew Grignon. The meeting began with Chris Kuehnl and his father, from the 4-H Ambassadors regarding the upcoming Techno Bowling for all members at Marble Park Lanes on Friday March 12 at 7:00p.m. Old business: February 23 and March 16 the sewing members will be working from 6:00-7:30p.m. at the Thiry residence. March 12-13 will be sewing camp, details to come. The All County Bake-Off is February 13. The food meeting will be March 9 at the Thiry residence at 4:45p.m. The YDS sale has been extended. Scrapbooking needs pictures; photography members are to keep looking for the letters in winter scenery to spell your name for the contest. The horse and pony project will meet after to decide on which idea they will be doing for fair decorations. We’re registered for Relay For Life, all the money from selling Seroogy’s chocolates will be donated towards it. May 22 & 23 is the Brat Fry fundraiser at Wayne’s Piggly Wiggly in Winneconne. New Business: Debbie Seaman and Tom Radke are the new, younger youth woodworking leaders. March 6 is the County tack sale. Our club voted to donate money for horse items for a basket for silent auction. March 14 is the chicken swap at Fond du Lac County fairgrounds. Sunday, February 7 is the fishing meeting at Schmidt’s. February 10 is the backpacking meeting at LaMarche’s. 4-H is now of Facebook! Check it out! The News and Views is now going to be sent via email. The club voted on club activities: #1 is the YMCA, #2 is Outdoor Theater, and #3 Camping. The Winter extravaganza is February 28 at Washington Park. Andy Krueger offered to lead a beekeeping group. Sign up for pizza making was passed around, money and orders are due February 28 to the Panfils. Speeches included Maggie VandenLangenberg on her goats, Maria VandenLangenberg on her softball team, Isaac Birschbach on his Webkinz, Sarah Birschbach on crocheting, Macey Clark on her ―About me‖ poster, Grace Panfil on her horse, and Rebecca Schultz on her new puppy. The meeting was adjourned at 8:25p.m.
The April meeting was called to order by President Jacob LaMarche. The pledges were led by Amanda Jones and Jane Krueger. Old Business : Sewing Camp turned out great, making sewing machine catchers and oven mitts. They also made wheel chair throws and shawls for community service. Letter photos for photography are due next month. Good luck to the horse bowl teams as they compete on May 1. Please turn in your commitment letters for the horse and pony project. Emails for dates on the backpacking and fishing are to come.

The brat fry is Saturday, May 22-23, and a sign up was passed around. The Relay for Life is June 18 at Oshkosh West; collect pledges for the Cancer Society. The YMCA turn out was the best we have ever had, hope everyone had a good time. Ashleigh Jones brought in new t-shirt designs and they were voted upon. Order forms will be brought to next month’ meeting. Club members began working on 4-H record books.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:36 P.M. NOTA—Kendall Kohlmeyer, Secretary Our March 8 meeting was held at 6:45p.m. at the JP Coughlin Center. We welcomed Rebekah Gander to our club. The treasurer’s report was read. In unfinished business we brought up record books and volunteering at BEAMING. We discussed fair decoration ideas and purchasing a new scrapbook for our club. We also reminded members of upcoming events including educational opportunities, 4-H bowling night, and the speaking contest. Carmen Roeming and Ariel Bjorge gave demos. The meeting was adjourned at 8:00p.m. Our meeting was held at the J.P. Coughlin Center on April 12 at 6:40pm. Amanda and Jessica led the pledges and the treasurer’s report was read. We discussed the club scrapbook materials and budget, the BEAMING clean-up, fair decoration ideas, and upcoming 4-H events. Jacob Popp gave an instrumental demo and the meeting was adjourned at 7:35 pm. Plain V-U—Sara Szep, Secretary The March meeting was called to order by President Krystal, Secretary and Treasurer reports were given and approved. Hunter and Stephanie led the pledges. Reminder that pizza making is March 20. Club bowling party on March 20 at Omro Lanes at 1:00p.m. Our club will be taking over the recycling project at the fair. Clayton attended the county shoot off and received a 3rd in his age group. Caroline attended

the Bake Off and received a ribbon. We adjourned to make the flowers for door decorations for the Omro Care Center. The April 12 meeting was called to order by President Krystal. Flag Pledges were led by Clayton and Randy. Secretary & Treasurer reports were given and approved. Roll Call was taken. Hunter and Stephany gave their speeches they did at the county speaking contest. A good job for them both. The club went bowling on March 28. A good time was had by all. We decided on a basket theme for the County Fair Raffle. Everyone is to bring the items decided to the May meeting. Caroline will bring a snack the May. Cody adjourned the meeting. Next meeting is May 10. Lakeshore—Mackenzie Kurczek, Secretary The March meeting was called to order by President Kelly Emmrich at 2:11p.m. Pledges were led by Makala Kasuboski and Autumn Davis. Treasurer's Report was read by Taylor Worthington and approved by Austin Davis and Mackenzie Kurczek. The Secretary's Report was read by Mackenzie and approved by Nathan Rausch and Austin Davis. Old Business: We shared about the Winter Extravaganza and discussed the all county bowling on March 12 in Winneconne. New Business: Dates for recycling and the ice cream social were discussed, and ideas for Cloverbuds and fun projects for them. We are having an Easter Egg hunt on April 11. If you are participating be at the meeting at 1:45p.m. with the meeting to follow. Kelly Wheeler showed everyone how to tie dye t-shirts, and the club members tie dyed an item. A demonstration was given by Mackenzie Kurczek on where different cuts of meat are located and were shown on her steer. The meeting was adjourned at 2:40p.m., by Austin Davis and Dustin Stueck. Tasty refreshments were provided by the Kurczek's family. Our next meeting is on April 11 at 2:00p.m. Western Sunset—Katie Warczak, Secretary The March meeting was called to order at 6:34p.m. at the Coughlin Center. The pledges were led by President Stayci Hanson-Hermann. Following the pledges, the president read the 4-H News & Views. Topics such as Pizza Making Day on March 20 and the Cloverbud camp in July were discussed. We were reminded about upcoming clinics and Horse and Pony Project Meetings. It was announced that two female rabbits by the names of Bella and Daisy needed new homes. President Stayci said anyone interested should contact her. It was also announced that Sarah Foster was looking for a home for her 24 year old Thoroughbred. Jordan Geffers made the Treasurer's report, and funds were

added from the Chili's fundraiser. Demonstrations followed: Mary Winkel brought in her snowboard, talked about snowboarding and showed us how to correctly put it on. Kelly Shannon quizzed us on English saddle parts, while her sister, Erin, asked us some questions on the U.S. Citizenship test. Community service and fundraiser ideas were further discussed. Community service suggestions have been narrowed down to approximately three, and to be completed sometime in early summer. Kim Winkel volunteered to do a 4-H Shoes for Souls drive. Shoes for Souls is an organization that takes old, but still in good shape shoes and distributes them among the impoverished children of the U.S. and Africa. Anyone who wishes to donate shoes should bring them to the next Horse and Pony Project Meeting on March 22. The shoes should be clean and devoid of holes. The meeting was concluded with the presentation of a stall decoration idea and an announcement about Western Sunset clothing order forms, to be available shortly. The meeting was adjourned at 7:46p.m. The next meeting will be held on Monday, April 12 at 6:20p.m. at the JPCC. Western Sunset's April meeting was called to order at 6:31PM on April 12, 2010 by President Stayci Hanson-Hermann. The pledges were led by President Stayci who then read the News & Views. The upcoming 4-H horse show was briefly discussed as some members had questions about show clothes. Jordan Geffers gave the Treasurer's Report for Western Sunset; the club has $796.60 in its account. A demonstration about different art techniques was given by Katie Warczak and Western Sunset's Fair decorations were finalized. Our club discussed its fundraising and community service propositions. Fundraiser ideas included a car wash, spare change jar, and reading pledges although nothing has been finalized. However, Western Sunset's community service project is scheduled to take place on May 15 at the Winkel house. The club will be hosting a horse day for autistic children, who will be invited to come and interact with the Winkel's horses. T-shirt order forms and club dues were discussed before the meeting was adjourned at 7:26 PM by President Stayci. The next Western Sunset 4-H meeting is May 10, 2010 at the JPCC at 6:20PM. Mears In February we met at Garbage Hill in Oshkosh. It was a nice winter evening, and we enjoyed sliding down the hill and crawling back up again for another ride. The group went to Dairy Queen for ice cream and a meeting. New business included announcements of the Winter Extravaganza; a bowling party in Winneconne; the Food Bake-Off; and pizza making.

4-H literature and calendars were handed out. The next meeting will be an Easter themec raft night. We are giving the craft to Park View Health Center. The March meeting was at the Oshkosh Town Hall. President Dustin Schroeder presided and pledges were led by Taylor Verhagen and Hunter Kobussen. Katelin Gorr gave the Treasurer’s report. It was emphasized that all should read the 4-H News and Views. Some of the activities reported in the newsletter were highlighted. For craft night, we had little trees made out of tree branches and painted them white. The club members made Easter decorations to hang on the trees. Jan Kossel and Stacy Schroeder brought the supplies and instructed the group. The trees will be taken to Park View Health Center to be used as centerpieces. It was a fun craft project. Westhaven Wonders- Margaret Leitl, Secretary The March meeting started off with Easter basket filling for the Evergreen Manor residents. We made 54 baskets; thanks to all who brought stuff and helped fill. Margaret brought the game Mad Libs and after Rec the meeting began: roll call was answered by ―What would you wish for if you caught a leprechaun?‖ We got our project information and talked about road side clean up. No date was set; we will set one in April. The meeting was short, so we adjourned at 7:30 and the Johnsons brought a snack. Kate started the April meeting off with a game which was very fun. The American Flag pledge was lead by Grace and the 4-H pledge by Jess. Roll call was ―What did you do for Easter break?‖ We had 1 guest. We have $104.87 and $350.10 in our treasury. Our president Kelly read a letter from the manager of Evergreen about the Easter baskets; everyone enjoyed and appreciated them. New business: Roadside clean up dates were set for May 15 as the main day with a rain date of May 22nd at 9:30a.m. Abby brought her bunny Houdini who was very interesting! She also brought popcorn for refreshments. Yum! Don’t forget your pennies next month!! Newcomer’s- Anna Radig, Secretary The March meeting was called to order at 6:05 P.M. by Club President Hannah Egan. Pledges were lead by Kelsey Potratz and Maddie Egan. Roll Call: Was taken by Secretary Anna Radig. Secretary’s report: Was read by Anna Radig. Treasurer’s Report: Was read by Jon Potratz. In our savings we have $580.51 and in our checking we have $346.18. Vice President’s Report: None. Reporter’s Report: None.

Leader’s Report: There was a good turn out for the photography meeting. The next one is before the May 4-H meeting. Remember to bring the pictures you have taken on your cameras. Reminder that the Fair Enrollment books are now all online and they’re also now on Facebook. Old Business: The Relay for Life walk will be on June 18 and 19; we need donations so bring your spare change to fill the jars. Fundraiser-Kim Chapin brought up the idea to sell Geraniums. We would buy the Geraniums for $2.79 each and would sell them for $4.00 each in 4 ½ inch pots. The delivery would be May 11—14. Jon Yost brought up the Brat Stand at Red’s Piggly Wiggly where we would be stationed by the road next to the sign. We would make about 50% profit on the brat stand. The dates would be Sunday, May 30 and Saturday, May 29. A motion was made by Shelbi Radig to have both as our fundraisers, and seconded by Marcus Krentz. Motion Passed New Business: Birthdays for March are: Youth—Meghan Kutchenriter, Abby Reinert, Emma Knight, Amanda Dempsey, and Ian Yost. Adults—None were recognized. May Day Baskets will be led by Linda and Meghan Kutchenriter. A motion was made by Anna Radig, seconded by Kyra Kutchenriter to have the club reimburse Patti Radig for the Winnebago County Horse and Pony Club’s Silent Auction Basket. Motion passed. Goals/Record Books: Paula told a short story. President Hannah Egan read one of her goals along with Eddie Egan, Derek Potratz, and Jon Potratz. Activity: None for March.
