Winter 2014 Edition

Dear Club Membears,

Old Man Winter has arrived fast and furiously here in the Northeast, but that certainly won’t put a damper on our holiday celebrations. In fact, when the temperature drops, it gives us all the perfect excuse to slow down a bit and enjoy the things we love about this season. Things like spending quality time with family and friends, taking part in time-honored traditions, and reflecting upon what a great year it has been.

Many of the Cherished Teddies figurines you’ll see in this issue of the Town Tattler, as well as many of the figurines we are working on now, celebrate exactly those things – friends, family, and tradition. It is my hope that you enjoy these pieces as much as we enjoy creating them! I hope you’ll visit your favorite Cherished Teddies retailer this season to see all that is new in person.

And speaking of visiting retailers, recently I was able to participate in a few retailer visits myself! It was such a pleasure seeing some old Cherished Teddies friends and meeting new ones. And I hope to meet even more in the coming year. After all, it is your stories that continue to inspire new Cherished Teddies figurines.

In this issue, we wanted to share with you the story behind “Marie” which will be introduced next year. This special piece was designed by Priscilla Hillman as a tribute to her closest and dearest friend who recently passed away. Marie and Priscilla went to college together and remained friends ever since. She enjoyed collecting snowmen and her love for them is what inspired this touching figurine. “She is missed beyond words,” Priscilla explains.

We also wanted to give you a peek at the new elf ornament in the works for next year. This jolly teddie is putting the finishing touches on an ornament of his own, making Santa’s workshop even more festive. This cheerful piece will add the perfect touch to any tree or holiday package.

The Cherished Teddies collection has been delighting collectors for more than 20 years, but its origins began even before that. In 1980, artist Priscilla Hillman found inspiration while recovering from a back injury. With plenty of time for her imagination to run wild, she would daydream about carefree childhood days rummaging in her aunt’s attic. She would imagine forgotten teddy bears waiting to be discovered in a similar nostalgic spot. She would wonder what they would do if they were free to do whatever they pleased. The situations she dreamed up back then became the premise behind the Cherished Teddies Collection introduced to the public in 1992.

Today, the figurines continue to be inspired by Priscilla’s imagination, as well as by her son Glenn’s. But many Cherished Teddies pieces also come straight from real life experiences and stories shared by their friends, family, and collectors like you. We know that many collectors personally relate to many figurines. Do you have a favorite piece? Does it remind you of a special person or specific occasion? Inspiring Each Other For More Than 20 YearsWe’d Love To Hear Your Story!

1. Place pretzels on a baking sheet. Place a chocolate kiss in the center of each. Back for 2-3 minutes at preheated 250 degree oven – just until chocolate is shiny and softened. Remove from oven.2. Immediately press a candy-coated chocolate piece into the center of each softened chocolate kiss. Refrigerate for 10 to 15 minutes or until chocolate is firm. Remove from tray and store in an airtight container at room temperature.

Makes about 4 dozen.

- 1 bag of pretzel squares- 1 bag of candy coated chocolate pieces- 1 bag of chocolate candy kisses

Snowman DoorAdd a touch of jolly fun to front doors, bedroom doors, closets, or refrigerator doors – get creative and welcome loved ones with a door make-over! With all the whimsy of your favorite Cherished Teddies Snowbears, this sweet idea will surprise all your winter visitors.

All you need is construction paper, wrapping paper, and your imagination. Cut out circles for eyes, mouth, and buttons. He’ll also need a carrot shaped nose, of course. Then cut strips of wrapping paper to create a scarf. Add a hat or twig-like hair and any other accessories you would like. We used invisible tape to attach all pieces to the door. When spring comes around again, keep the pieces in a gallon size, zipper-close bag so they will be ready to use again next year.

Simple and delicious, these snacks will delight holiday guests of all ages. Make them ahead of time for a quick and easy appetizer or dessert.
