TRANSCRIPT
Oktoberfest Fall FUNdraiser The sound of traditional German music and the smell of German sausage filled the air as over 175 supporters of the Carlisle Area Family Life Center enjoyed the 2018 Oktoberfest fundraiser. Many enjoyed the dancing, bidding on over 25 silent auction items, trying for the vacations in the live auction and enjoying a chance to visit with friends old and new!
The fundraising committee decided to try something new this year to put some FUN into the FUNdraising! This seemed to work as we raised over $18,000 for the center! We are very grateful to the Carlisle Ribbon Mill, Egerlander German Band, Desperate Times Brewery and many other businesses in the area who donated items for the silent and live auctions.

THEBEACONCarlisle Area Family Life Center ~ Serving the Greater Carlisle Area Since 1979
If you missed the fun this year, please plan on joining us in 2019!
Thrivent Action Team Stocking Stuffing Project Thrivent members, Darlene and Frank Ramond recently organized an Action Team project that included students from River Rock Academy! They all met at the center and stuffed Christmas stockings for our clients’ little ones. What a huge help these stockings will be as our clients prepare for Christmas! We are so grateful for their support!

Ultrasound Update
In the first 9 months of 2018, CAFLC served over 2,100 clients! We have not served over 2,000 clients before in any prior year! We attribute this increase to our Ultrasound Program and are thrilled to be able to provide this service to our community. As of the end of November, Jen has performed 124 scans so far this year and we have some already scheduled into next year!
Jen, our Nurse/Manager, has been such a blessing to the center. Our volunteers continually remark how they appreciate the care and concern that she shows for each one of our clients. She never complains when we call her in to do an emergency scan for a client and will rearrange her family’s schedule to accommodate a client’s work schedule! Recently she hurried in to do a scan on a young woman who had only been in our country for a few months and spoke no English (gratefully she had a friend to translate!); and she even came in the night before Thanksgiving to reassure a young mother! Our center is so grateful to have her!
CAFLC Volunteer News
We are thrilled to have the time and talents of 6 new volunteers here at the center. Two are retired teachers, one a retired nurse, one works in the court system, one volunteers at the Employment Skills Center and one recently decided to leave her job to stay home with her toddler! They all share a willingness to serve in their places of worship and here at the Carlisle Area Family Life Center. Our volunteers are our most valuable asset here at the center! They are all so willing to do whatever is needed to serve our clients and their families. We are so blessed to have them all and could not open our doors each day without them. If you are feeling called to share your time and talent here at the center, please just give Jackie a call for more information 717-243-6544.

A Message from the President of the Board- Paul Rast Advent is here! Thus, we begin a new year awaiting the Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ. This Holy season is full of joy, family and friend gatherings, exchange of gifts, sweet delights and sumptuous meals. And, the children await St. Nick! Oftentimes, the “reason for the season” is not always at the forefront at this time.
Most of us are familiar with the Christmas Narrative according to Matthew, where our Lord is born in the most humble of circumstances to be among us, fulfilling prophecy as Emmanuel, ”God among us” ...and He was named Jesus…” the One who saves”...and SERVES. We can commemorate His birth with an emphasis on His message and actions during His earthly ministry. We can serve the most needy and vulnerable in the society of the times and, in particular, with special dignity and respect to women. And that service is always with respect for the gift of life emanating from the Love of God the Father, providing us with an example to follow in our lives. This instruction for service of others underlies our purpose at the Carlisle Area Family LIFE Center. We see all our clients in this light, tending to their needs--non-judgmentally, and helping their children-- born and unborn. I pray that all readers will join me in celebrating Life by celebrating CHRISTmas for the true gift that it is for all of us.
Christmas will indeed be here very soon and your Carlisle Area Family Life Center is finishing a tremendous year. Soon, we will celebrate an anniversary year: 30 years as Birthright and 10 years as The Carlisle Family Life Center. Already the dedicated volunteers of the Center are planning festivities to highlight our successes and growth while serving the women and their children of our community in need. With the generous gifts of all our benefactors and the dedicated service of all our volunteers, we have enjoyed successful growth and had FUN doing it. For example, Bingo for Babies and Oktoberfest were both hits. These events were not only good for the “bottom line”; but the exposure in our community brought solidarity in our purpose -- that is to SERVE the vulnerable and needy women with LOVE and to praise and preserve LIFE!.
May the Lord Bless all of you this Season. Alleluia, Alleluia!

A Note from Jackie We have just finished our celebration of Thanksgiving where we remember all of our blessings and thank God for them. At the Carlisle Area Family Life Center, each day we have occasion to realize how blessed we are! Nearly every day we have a client come in who desperately needs the assistance we are able to offer thanks to our amazing donors and volunteers! I truly wish each of you could see the relief on the client’s face as we offer diapers, formula, a crib, clothing or the other items we have here at the center thanks to the generous donations we have received. I wish you could hear their sincere thanks or receive the hug that they offer us! Please know that we tell them that we could not help them if it were not for your generosity! They truly are so grateful! We are so grateful! Now we move on to our celebration of Christmas where we remember how our Savior was born to a poor, homeless, young couple. It often seems sort of romantic in the Christmas stories…I am guessing it was really very scary for Mary and Joseph. I know it is for the homeless, pregnant moms that we have as clients. We cannot offer them swaddling clothes, but thanks to your generosity, we can offer them a layette filled with warm clothing, blankets, diapers, towels, bottles, books, toys and few small things for mom. We can offer them reassurance that they can return regularly for more diapers, formula, clothing and sometimes what is most needed someone they can talk with who really cares about them and their baby. Thank you for helping us to be there for them! Thank you for letting the Carlisle Area Family Life Center be someplace that they can count on when others have let them down! The center could not be there for our clients if it were not for ALL of our volunteers, board members, donors, and supporters. Each does their part to help the Carlisle Area Family Life Center serve the families of our community. Please know that we thank God for you each day! Mary Pat and I wish you all a blessed Christmas and a peaceful, joy-filled new year.

The generosity of the CAFLC and its capacity to operate relies directly upon the goodwill and contributions of our benefactors. We receive no local, state or government funding and are completely dependent on our community donors. Capital donations are critical for the center in meeting daily expenses, such as rent, utilities, and supplies. This allows us to provide a location and services where women and families in crisis situations can find comfort, understanding, and information for themselves and their unborn infants.
Our mission relies solely on your kindness as we cannot do this without you by our side. We are all very thankful for the support and generosity that you continue to give. We thank God for you daily!
