1 Wisconsin Conservatory of Music | wcmusic.org LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT We have some great news to share with you this winter! In 2009 we were fortunate to start our new Jazz Institute, a broader and deeper version of our existing jazz programming. With funds from the Eric D. Batterman Memorial Grant we are able to provide scholarship assistance for dozens of talented middle and high school players, bring guest artists in to work with all our students, and offer long-term jazz residency and jazz buddy programs in a hand-full of Milwaukee area schools. One of the goals for the Jazz Institute was to garner some national recognition, and in just two short years, that has happened! The Batterman Ensemble, our premier student jazz combo, was selected from a field of 60 applicants to be a finalists in the Charles Mingus High School Jazz Competition. They will be competing in New York, at the famed Manhattan School of Music, against three other school groups in the “Specialized Schools and Programs” category over the weekend of Feb. 17-19. We have some great news to share with you this winter!

17-19. To say we are thrilled is an understatement! WHAT WE ’ VE BEEN UP TO

SPECIAL THANKS

Tonight, we explore the possibilities of “Piano Forte” or “Soft and Loud”. On February 24th, it will be one year since “JOE 2.0” made their debut as a band at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. With this show, we offer a journey into the extremes of music: loud and soft, savage and serene. In music, as in life, it

After a promising debut show, we fol-lowed it up in the summer playing to a packed house at the Potawatomi Bingo Casino stage at Summerfest. We have also performed regularly at Potawatomi Casino itself and other clubs around Milwaukee. So far, audiences seem to be really drawn to the unique sound of the electrified string quartet and we have gained a loyal following. We are constantly adding new originals and covers to the set to continue to expand our acoustic

With our songs we will try to make these contrasts for your ears and your eyes, moving without hesitation from high to low, from bright to bleak. We hope that this mix of contrasting tones and textures is enjoyable for you and we really appreciate your attendance tonight. We will continue to do everything we can to provide a unique and powerful musical experience for music lovers everywhere.

Currently, we are recording a CD of original music, scheduled to be released in the spring of 2012.
