The AVA headquarters’ move now looks like being late December or early January and we will let everyone know as soon as it happens. We will need to have new phone numbers. The 1300 number will remain the same, email addresses will not change and the post office box at Artarmon will be retained for an extended period of time until we are confident that all mail will come to the new address. I know that many members will have been through this process of building and moving homes and/or practices, and each time you probably tell yourself that this will be the last! For AVA National, I certainly hope it is for the foreseeable future! Rules for Divisions, Special Interest Groups and Branches We are now in the final stages of consultation on the rules for Divisions, SIGs and Branches. Thank you to everyone who has made comments and suggestions during this intensive 18- month process. At the October meeting of the Board each of these documents will be considered. When the Board has signed off on the documents, the final versions will be provided to all Presidents and the documents will also be available through the website. The implementation date is likely to be 1 January 2005. Cait has made a substantial contribution to PetPEP in Queensland and nationally, and will be missed. However we do have an opportunity to catch up with her on the Friday morning of the AVA conference at the Gold Coast in May 2005 when we can all have breakfast with the birds (and hopefully Cait), at Currumbin. I have also received a letter from the scientific editor of the Australian Veterinary Journal, Dr Colin Wilks indicating that he will not be seeking to renew his contract for 2005. In his letter Colin reflected: “The five years that I have occupied this position have been particularly satisfying for me professionally and I have always regarded it as an honour to have followed the lead of those distinguished individuals who have edited the journal since its inception in 1925. Over the last couple of years I have had opportunity to become involved in a limited way with other academic pursuits and I now wish to create more time in my life to explore and pursue these.” Colin has done an extraordinary job and his shoes will not be easy to fill. I have asked that a call for expressions of interest be placed in this edition of the AVJ, and I have invited Colin to write an editorial piece for the December edition of the journal. Over the last weekend in October the Board and the Policy Advisory Council will be meeting, and I look forward to updating you on the outcomes of those meetings in December.
