when you need it most, andbrings joyful inspiration at alltimes. Central to our message about

prayer is the idea that all of ourMembers join together in sayingour Three Daily Prayers. In thatway, we pray for and with oneanother each day.

As the Bible tells us inI Timothy 2:1, “I exhort therefore,that, first of all, supplications,prayers, intercessions, and giv-ing of thanks, be made for allmen.” Yes, Dear Friend, when we unitein prayer we are following God’steachings, and maximizing thepower of our prayers!On Page 5, Member Peter K.

from the U.S. Virgin Islandslearned early on about the powerof prayer when he was a teen. Hehad gone to work to help his fam-ily pay bills, and worked faithful-ly for a large company over sever-al years. Here’s what happenednext . . . “I came to work one dayand my boss, the handyman, toldme he was retiring. Then, hesaid he had recommended forme to become the new head ofthe Maintenance Department! Iwas amazed as I realized Jesushad guided me toward thismoment!” So, that’s what I want to share

with my Fellow Members. Nomatter where you live,Fellowship and the Lord canreach out and offer their help!”We’ve also included the touch-

ing story on Page 23 of Rachel F.in Connecticut. Rachel overcameseemingly impossible odds, start-

ing with a childhood illness, tobecome the nurse she had alwayswanted to be. “No matter how bad things got

in the past, I trusted God to helpme,” Rachel wrote us. “Mybiggest dream in life was to be anurse, but I was denied thechance to try to qualify for thatspecialty many years ago . . .Well, guess what? After Iregained my sight, I went back tonursing school . . . After complet-ing my studies, now, I am an RN!I enjoy each day God has grantedme.”

We salute Members Peter andRachel for trusting their prayersand hopes in God, and we’redelighted both have reaped theirdeserved rewards. We hope youenjoy all the other inspirationalstories, prayers, Bible Verses andregular features of this Autumnedition of FAITH, Dear Member.May the power of prayerenergize you, too!

“I Realized Jesus Had GuidedMe Toward This Moment!”

I want to offer a warm greet-ing to my Fellowship Friendswho are living in colder climateswhere the leaves are falling andthe first frost isn’t far away. I’venever seen snow, having grownup in the Caribbean, but itsounds like fun for a little while(smile). Ever since I was a little boy,

my mother was a Member ofFellowship. She raised me andmy younger brothers and sistersto love the Lord as she did. Momwas always telling us Jesus min-istered to the poor and the sick,and He would be there to help usif we called upon Him. I half-lis-tened to her stories before I wentout to play with my siblings.Little did I know, He would be abig help to me later. My mother worked as a house-

keeper for one of the big hotelson our island. She worked hard,often for long hours, so westayed with my grandparentsuntil she got home. I’d see howtired Mom was when she camehome, and I’d say to myself: “I’mnever going to work like that.I’m going to be a manager andlet other people do manuallabor.”

Well, as so often happens, thedreams of children run smackinto reality. One day, my mothercame home early and said herhours had been cut back. As theoldest child, I needed to go towork to help pay household bills.I sat down that night and

wrote Fellowship for someprayer help. When I received it, Iprayed to Jesus, asking Him tofind me a job to help out my fam-ily. I knocked on doors of localbusinesses for a couple weeks,and was starting to despair,when my mother got a call fromthe handyman for the same hotelwhere she worked. I started out as an apprentice,

and found out I liked to fixthings and solve problems. Ienjoyed what I was doing and itshowed in my enthusiasm. Soon,I worked my way into a full-timemaintenance job. I had workedin that position for severalyears, when I came to work oneday and my boss, the handyman,told me he was retiring. Then,he said he had recommended forme to become the new head ofthe Maintenance Department! Iwas amazed as I realized Jesushad guided me toward thismoment!So, that’s what I want to share

with my Fellow Members. Nomatter where you live,Fellowship and the Lord canreach out and offer their help!

Dear Friend, everyone knowshow important it is to have abest friend to whom you can talkabout the good times and diffi-culties of life. Likewise, itmakes such a difference whenyou have good neighbors wholook after your property in thesame way they watch over theirown. In fact, we know of one

Member who says the Lord isthe best neighbor he’s ever had,a neighbor who lives Upstairs!For that Member, God is alwaysclose by. He is a source of com-fort and strength, lending guid-ance whenever our FellowshipFriend needs it. When you thinkabout it, that’s a wonderful atti-tude to have toward the Lord,isn’t it? It is when He becomes

real and personal to us, that wefind it easier to turn to Him andask Him to help us resolve what-ever is going wrong in our lives. In the Gospel of John, Jesus

speaks to His Disciples aboutjust such friendship. Henceforth I call you not ser-

vants; for the servant knowethnot what his lord doeth: but Ihave called you Friends; for allthings that I have heard of MyFather I have made known untoyou. ~John 15:15Yes, Dear Member, since the

Lord created this World, you canrely on His ability to understandwhatever is troubling you.Whether it concerns familyproblems, monthly bills, the lossof a job, illness, loneliness oranything else, your “UpstairsNeighbor” stands with you. Heis always ready to hear yourprayers and help you right whatis wrong. The Lord won’t push Himself

on you, or force you to come toHim, either. He waits to be invit-ed into your life as a warm, com-forting spirit who offers solacefrom life’s hardship. Once you welcome your car-

ing, “Upstairs Neighbor” intoyour heart, you’ll never be aloneagain! He’ll never borrow some-thing and not return it, and Hewill never let you down. You cancount on that!

Let The Lord Be Your BestFriend And Good Neighbor!

Dear Life-Study Fellowship,Please find my first contributionto you enclosed in this letter. Iwant to make it in honor of ourlittle dog, Sunny, who passedaway. My husband found him in adumpster as a 6-week-old puppythat someone had just thrownaway. We had him for nine shortyears and he brought us muchcomfort love and joy. His devo-tion was endless and everyoneloved him. Sunny helped menurse my husband through threemajor illnesses and hospitalstays. He was always glad to seeus, no matter how bad things got.My husband always said Sunnywas our good luck charm. Now,we both are hurting so bad. I hadprayed for guidance to keep himhealthy, and when he got sick Iprayed for his recovery. ButSunny was just too ill, and itwasn’t to be. I feel so lost now, asif a member of the family had

died. Of course, I guess that’sunderstandable because Sunnyreally was part of our family.He’s now buried in a pet ceme-tery with other beloved animals. So, that’s a long story but I

wanted to explain the reason formy donation at this time. I hopeit will help Fellowship continueits blessed mission of reachingout to Members around theWorld, brightening their liveswith hope and inspiration theway Sunny brightened our lives. We’ve been Members of

Fellowship for many years. I’malways glad to see FaithMagazine in the mailbox. It issuch a treat to explore its storiesand read the Three DailyPrayers to guide me every day.Each FAITH brings me hours ofenjoyment and I get such anuplifting feeling as I turn thepages. When I’m done, I hand your

magazine off to my husband sohe can enjoy it. Then, when weboth have finished reading, wegive our copies of FAITH to oneof our neighbors. Each maga-zine eventually makes therounds of our neighborhood andeveryone says how much theyenjoy it!Well, I’ve talked longer than I

intended, so I just want to closeby saying God bless you all!

We’ve put together some moregreat time, energy and moneysavers to make life easier for you,Dear Friend. This is your page soplease feel free to tell us whatyou find helpful around thehouse. Your Fellow Membersenjoy reading and using the sug-gestions sent in!

* * *BROKEN GLASS

Ever break a glass and weren’tsure you had swept up all thepieces? You can use slices of oldbread to lightly wipe the floor inthe area where you picked up thebig shards of glass. The breadwill pick up many remaining bits.

* * *CLEAN HANDS

You can use sugar as a handcleaner and degreaser! Here’show: Use about a teaspoon ofsugar, with a little water, to scrubyour hands. Then wash them asnormal. If it's a stubborn mix ofgrease and grime, you can alsothrow in some liquid dish soap. Itworks great, and it's a lot easier touse than a harsh degreaser, andless gunky than cooking spray.

* * *SCORCH MARKS

Scorch marks occur when youriron is too hot for your fabric, orif you leave the iron in one placeon the fabric too long. If thescorch is not too bad, there are a

couple of things you can try to getit out. Light scorch marks can betreated with 1 part water and 1part hydrogen peroxide, dabbedgently on the mark. Also you cantry a borax solution (¼ cup boraxto 1 quart of water) on the scorch.If the fabric permits, it can besoaked in a bleach solution. Besure to rinse throughly and washas usual after treatments. Darker,heavier scorch marks are moreproblematic. You may be able toadd a pocket or add an embroi-dery decoration over the scorch,depending on its location.

* * *

REUSE AND RECYCLEGive an old stuffed toy a newlease on life as a bookend for achild’s room. Simply cut a slit inthe toy and fill it with driedbeans. Stitch it back together andplace on the bookshelf.

* * *LET YOUR LAPTOP BREATHE

Clean the area near the exhaustfan screen of your laptop with anold toothbrush. If that getsclogged, airflow is diminishedand overheating can occur..

* * *

GET RID OF MICE

Mice can’t stand the smell of freshpeppermint. Plant it around yourhouse or put some oil of pepper-mint on a piece of cloth and place itin locations you suspect the micemay be visiting.

Hundreds upon hundreds ofpeople around the World belongto our Life-Study Fellowship,Dear Friend, and the best thingabout that is everyone prayswith and for one another. Manyof our Members also give gener-ously of their time to help oth-ers. We recently heard from oneMember, Paul D. from Florida,who does volunteer work in hiscommunity, and we’d like to passalong what he says about“giving back” to his hometown.

* * * Paul: I feel blessed because my

wife and I were able to retire ingood health after selling therestaurant we started when wewere young. We like stayingbusy, so we finished a long-awaited remodeling project onour home, and took off on acruise to countries we’d neverseen. When we got back and set-tled in . . . we looked at ourselvesand asked, “What should we donext?” Well, we knew we didn’t want,

or need, to go back to work. Wealso were done with traveling.Then, I was reading the newspa-per and saw an article about howour church had started an out-reach ministry, sponsoringmeals several times a week forhomeless folks. The article quot-ed our pastor saying they neededvolunteers to serve the meals.With our restaurant back-

ground, my wife and I thoughtthis volunteer effort would be agood fit for us. We drove to thechurch for our first day servingmeals, and what an eye-openingexperience! I should admit herethat I used to think of homelesspeople as just folks who didn’twant to work. While there aresome like that, I was shocked tosee families who were living intheir vehicles because Mom orDad lost their job. My wife and I resolved right

then to help these folks. Usingour business contacts, we wereable to secure job offers for sev-eral adults. They were so grate-ful, it brought me to tears. Now,we volunteer several times aweek and feel really good abouthelping others!

* * *We couldn’t be more proud

and thankful for Members likePaul D., and all of ourFellowship Friends who giveback to their communities!

We’ve talked in this issue ofFaith Magazine about ourFellowship Friends around theWorld, all praying for and withone another. It is a beautifulreminder of the power of ourunited prayers. And one of themost common ideas expressedin those prayers is our thanks toGod for showering us with Hisblessings. Your Fellow Members also

pray about deepening theirfaith, and finding hope to sup-port them in challenging times.But eventually, all prayers endwith a big “Thank You” to theLord for listening and helpingus make our prayers come true. We think those prayers of

thanks are the most importantones of all, Dear Friend. For it isthe Lord’s blessings that add

beauty and clarity to our dailylives. Just think about it. Timeafter time people call out to theLord for His answers to all sortsof problems and emergencies.Then, when the Lord responds,we feel a tremendous feeling ofrelief. There are countless moments

when we might say a quickprayer . . . “Lord, keep me safeon our trip out of town”. . .“God, please stop my loved onesfrom fighting”. . . “Lord, pleasehelp me find doctors to heal myhealth problems!”All of these are calls for God’s

help, and how wonderful it iswhen He mercifully responds.That’s the best time to offer

Him a prayer of thanks, so Heknows we are grateful for HisLoving Kindness. When youthink about it, God reallydoesn’t ask much of us. He onlyasks that we live according toHis teachings and believe in Hisgoodness. It doesn’t cost us any-thing to do that, and boy do webenefit from His help! Yes, your prayers really do

matter, Dear Member. They holdthe power to change whateverwe don’t like and talk to the Lordabout our needs. May all of us inLife-Study Fellowship strive toremember these special prayersto tell the Lord how much Hemeans to us, and how Heimproves our lives.

Member Sylvia T., England

Some Members have inquiredabout how they might make abequest to Life-Study Fellowship.Through the years, many

Members have chosen to remem-ber our Fellowship in this spe-cial way and we are truly grate-ful. Some Members have includ-ed Fellowship in their wills,while others have named Life-Study Fellowship in their lifeinsurance policies. If you are interested in making

arrangements through your will,we suggest you talk with anattorney who can explain the taxadvantages and ways to go aboutmaking such a bequest.

Please remember that it is toeverybody’s advantage to have awill. This doesn’t apply just tothe very wealthy. The truth iseveryone who owns any propertyneeds a will to direct who shouldbenefit. Otherwise, some or all of your

property will be split up accord-ing to state law which may leaveyour property in ways you didnot want or intend.Therefore, whether or not you

include a bequest to Life-StudyFellowship, we encourage you toseek the services of an attorneyto have a will drawn up if youhave not already done so.

Everyone is so blessed, if onlywe took the time to look aroundus!

Look at the beauty of nature:the change of seasons, the trees,the flowers, the animals. Godnever meant for us to worry. Hepromised to take care of every-thing as long as we believe inHim. I try very hard to helpothers see this, no matter whatmay be going on around them.Sometimes, people don’t believeme, and it’s only when the Lordgrants them an answer to theirprayers that they change theirtune.

People who know me are sur-prised that I would say I feelblessed, considering I’ve had somany health problems and havegone through much hardship.

You see, I was only supposedto live up to 10 years old. I wasdiagnosed with diabetes at avery young age. At one time, Iwas blind and I was on kidneydialysis. I still have neuropathyfrom the diabetes, but it’s mostlyunder control. And, I’m stillhere. Thanks to the Lord!

I was able to regain my sightand my kidneys are functioningagain. My lab work is normalnow. It’s a wonderful feeling toknow I’m going to be OK.

No matter how bad things got

in the past, I trusted God to helpme. My biggest dream in life wasto be a nurse, but I was deniedthe chance to try to qualify forthat specialty many years ago. Iwas told I wouldn’t be allowed togo into the medical field becauseI wouldn’t be able to handle thestress.

Well, guess what? After Iregained my sight, I went backto nursing school. I was told I’dnever make it because my healthwould make me miss too manyclasses. In fact, I was the onlystudent who didn’t miss a day!After completing my studies,now, I am an RN! I enjoy eachday God has granted me. I amtruly blessed and thank Godevery day for His goodness, andfor giving me back my sight.

Her Home Is Her CastleFilled With His Love And Light!

We’ve all heard the saying,Home is where the heart is,haven’t we? Well, Dear Member,we want to take a minute andtell you about one of yourFellowship Friends who sayseach of the rooms in her homeremind her of God’s blessings. Our Dear Friend Sue has lived

in her modest house in a smalltown for decades. The momentyou enter her home you can seesigns of Sue’s happiness in thefamily pictures on the wall, afavorite throw rug or lamp thatcame down through her family.“My sofa isn’t new, and I’ve

had my coffee table for a longtime,” she says. “But they’re inthe living room, which remindsme to thank the Lord for thegood life He has given me. Everyday is a new opportunity toenjoy the beauty outside mydoor.”Sue thinks of her kitchen as a

reminder that God has blessedher with food and nourishment.Knowing there are people whogo hungry, she says she is grate-ful to have the means to provideherself with food and shelter. Then, there’s Sue’s bedroom,

which reminds her of the peaceof mind that comes over herafter she says her prayers andgoes to bed. “I read my BibleVerses before I turn the light outand go to sleep. I find this calmsmy thoughts and I know theLord is watching over me, pro-tecting me while I’m dreamingof other things.”All in all, Sue’s home is small

and cozy, but to her it is a castlefilled with the Lord’s love andlight. His Spirit is always pre-sent and Sue feels like she cancall upon Him at any time. That’s why Sue says each

room reminds her of a specialblessing, Dear Member, andthere is a lesson here for all. Wedon’t need to have supersizedhomes, the latest big screen TVsor state-of-the-art appliances tothink of ourselves as blessed. No, anyone living in a modest

apartment or house can bethankful for having that shelter,when others have none. Andanyone fortunate enough to haveplenty of food can thank God forthat, knowing many in thisWorld are hungry. Being happy with who you are

and what you have is the secretto being fulfilled in life!

Another year is fast closing,and I pause to reflect on the daysand weeks of joyful memories,and some I’d more or less rathernot remember. In spite of the challenges I’ve

faced this year, I give sincerethanks to God for His love andblessings. I also thank Him formy Life-Study Fellowship, whichhas been serving me for thesemany, many years. Many sad hearts have been

comforted by the words of theDaily Bible Readings in eachFaith Magazine Fellowship sendsout. Souls have been won for theLord, and broken hearts havebeen mended. Speaking for myself, I have

been greatly blessed andstrengthened by the Daily BibleVerses and Three Daily Prayers Iread in each FAITH. I have beenreading Faith Magazine for over40 years, and I have found it to bea wonderful daily guide andsource of strength for me!May the good Lord continue to

bless you all and help you contin-ue the work you are doing toreach out and spread the wordabout prayer around the World. I wish you the best of holiday

cheer later this year. I hope tohave a good holiday this year, too.I am thankful for small blessingsin my life, and ask you to remem-ber me in your prayers.

What does God look like?I really don't know;But I have some friendsWith faces aglow . . .

What does God look like?I really can't say,But He is revealedIn a beautiful way . . .

We Thank God For . . .

For each new morning With its light,

For rest and shelterOf the night,

For health and food, For love and friends,

For everything Thy goodness sends.

Get Closer To The Lord ThroughPrayer And You’ll Never Be Lost! A car won’t bring you closer to

the Lord. You can’t fly there orride the subway, train or bus,either.That’s right, Dear Member,

although there are all sorts ofways to travel today, they can’ttake us to this special place!But, there is a very easy way

to get there. And it doesn’t cost apenny! It’s very simple, you canget closer to God throughprayer!It can’t always be explained

with words, but prayer helps totake us where we want to go — toreach the right destinations inlife. Prayer is your “spiritualtransportation” so to speak!And it sure can be hard to try

traveling through life without it.For it is prayer which smoothsthe bumpy spots on the road. Ittakes you up and over the moun-tain of obstacles. It makes everymile more hopeful, becauseyou’re confident that God isgoing to get you to the rightplace at the right time.Getting closer to the Lord

with prayer means that whenev-er you have goals that you want

to achieve, or get out of a bad sit-uation, or desire to make a freshstart in life, you can talk withthe Lord and trust Him to helpyou arrive at your destination.Plus, you know that with Hishelp, it will be a safe, happy trip!He becomes your driver, your

pilot, your engineer, and youdon’t have to worry because Hewill make sure that you don’t getoff at the wrong stop. He will seeto it that you reach the destina-tion best suited to your needs,even though it may be a “timeand place” you never actuallyconsidered. With the “spiritual trans-

portation” of prayer you cantravel with peace of mind everymile of the way.Without the Lord’s loving

guidance it seems you just haveto trudge along step by wearystep. It’s so easy to become con-fused, even totally lost, aboutwhere you’re trying to go in life.So, no matter your “destina-

tion,” or what hopes and dreamsare within your heart, make it agood journey by getting therewith prayer!
