Offshore Wind ChinaChina market will keep growing quickly in next ten years

Currently, there are in total 266 planned projects of 135.64GW

Looking ahead, China has entered a rapid construction period under the pressure of a new decreasing FIT scheme

Advanced supply chain needed to tackle the challenge of cost reduction

We are in the region early and have been influencing powerful local stakeholders

Total Cables Package: 8% of total project CapEx

Cable Protection Systems: 3% of Cables Package

0.24% of total project CapEx

So Cable Protection Systems are a small package in terms of cost!

However in Europe cables have represented up to 80% of the cost of the insurance claims, so the Cable Protection System package is a very important one!

A single cable failure can be very expensive and could cost more than double the cost of the Cable Protection Systems for the full project, per claim:

Lost power generation revenue

String length affected

Expected repair time

Cost of new cable

Removal of old cable and installation of new cable

Cables will become exposed if not protected with a CPS:

Scour development

Rock Dumping

J-tube Extensions / Telescopic J-tubes

Mattressing

Exposed cables will be damaged over the service life of the windfarm to a point where they can no longer transmit power:

Over-bending/tension

Abrasion

Impact

Fatigue

Tekmar’s CPS also offers numerous other benefits such as:

Removal of j-tubes (monopile foundations)

Improved thermal ratings of power cables

Easier removal and replacement of damaged cables

Cables are high risk and need protecting.

The cost of replacing cables is high.

Tekmar’s cable protection system will reliably protect cables, as well as offer significant cost savings in reduced steel costs and optimised installation.

Designing cable protection systems is complex and requires specialist knowledge and experience.
