Activities

Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze Award

  Location: On/off-site  Cost: £105

  Max No : 50

Theweekwillinvolvepreparation,thefinalexpedition,andthefinalpresentation.Itwillconsist

ofacombinationofpracticalandtheorysessionsaimedatgivingyouthebestchancetopass

theexpeditionsectionofthebronzeaward.Thecostisinclusiveofallfood,campsitefeesand

acompulsory£17.00registrationfeepayabledirectlytotheDofEscheme.Itisimportantto

notethatifyouaredoingDofE,youMUSTchoosethisoptiontocompletethebronzeaward.

Art Attack

Location: On-site/Londonvisits

Cost: FREE

Max No : 24

Youwillbeabletoexperienceartfirst-hand,

withatriptotheTateModernandatriptoKewGardens.

You will then use the experiences of the

visits as an inspiration to research and

create a piece of art. There will be a

celebrationeventattheendoftheweekof

the art created. Please see below for the

collagecreatedbylastyear’scohort.

Being an Architect

Location: On-site/Londonvisits

Cost: FREE

Max No : 20

The aim of this week is to develop yourexperience, knowledgeand understanding

of architecture and the built environment.

This involves responding toa design brief

setbytheRoyalInstituteofBritishArchitects

and then working on a project during the

week. This includes a visit to the Royal

InstituteofBritishArchitects,andlinkingthe

workofarchitectstoart,ICT,mathematics

andphysics.ItalsoinvolvesafurthertriptoexploresomeofthearchitectureinLondon

andtheV&AMuseum.

Location: On-site

Through this activity, you will develop a

rangeofcomputingskills.Thiswillinclude:

appcreation,gamemaking,podcasting,and

howcontrolsystemswork.Itislikelythatthis

activitywillincludeadaytriptoSky.

Film-Making

Location: On-site/localvisits

Cost: £40–50

Max No : 24

We will take a "hands-on" look at film-

makingbothinfrontandbehindthecamera.

We will take a trip to the ‘The Making of

Harry Potter’ at Warner Brothers Studios,

while another day will be spent at a film-

making centre such as the BFI or Sky

 Academy.Wewill spend the remainderof

our time, planning, filming and editing a

shortfilm.Wehopethattheweekwillofferstudentstheopportunitytolearnmoreabout

andbeinspiredbythefilm-makingprocess.

Fishing

Location: Localareas

Cost: £35

Max No : 12

Thisactivityinvolvesfivefulldaysoffishing

withminibustransporttoeachsite.

Specialist coaches will be used from the

localanglingclub,withpre-eventcoaching.

You will need a daily packed lunch andfishingbait.

Thecostofthisactivityincludesaone-year

environmentallicenceanddaypermits.

PSHEthisyear,studentswillundertakean

excitingweek.Duringthefivedays,youwill

completeyourfirstaidcertificate,aswellas

focusing on health, contraception and

relationshipschoices.

 

Sports Week

Location: On-site/Londonsportsvenues

Cost: £45Max No : 28

Thisactivitywilltakeinamixtureofon-site

sports-relatedactivitiessuchas:volleyball,

softballandultimatefrisbee.

Youwillalsoundertakesomeoff-sitesport-

last year’s trips included: cycling at the

Velodrome, swimming and diving at the

OlympicPark,andTopGolf.

Survival Week

Location: Localoutdoorareas

Cost: £45

Max No : 20

Thisinvolvesstudentslearninghowtosurviveinthe

wild and dangerous environments of Bedfont,

Brentford, Isleworth and Osterley. Students will

spendthreedaysinBedfont,wheretheywilldevelop

their ability tosurviveoutdoors, including: building

survivalsheltersfromundergrowth;tryingtoignitea

firewithnomatches;and trackinganimals. Other

activitiesinvolveteam-building,basicfirstaid,and,

uniquely,skinningrabbits.Noequipmentisrequired.
