    TOURNAMENT RULES

    Playing the Tournament

You will participate in a series of six games (spread over two days), each against a different

    opponent.

Players will be matched against an opponent in the First Round based on specific (andconfidential) guidelines. After that, in each round the two players in 1st and 2nd place (basedon their points for Gameplay) will play each other, the players in 3rd and 4th place will playeach other; the players in 5th and 6th place will play each other, and so on.

The only exception is that you should never play the same opponent twice; should thishappen let the TO know so they can sort things out and offer you fresh opponents of asuitable calibre. The main advantage of this system is that it seeds players after the FirstRound, and makes sure that the final winner of the Tournament will have faced some toughopposition along the way.

    Limitations

The only list limitation/restriction I am going to make is:

    - Forge World units that have the 'interceptor' Universal Special Rule are 0-1 unit per player. This includes but not limited to:

    Hyperios Air Defence Platforms

    Hydra Flak Platforms

    Sabre Defence Platforms

    Mortis pattern Contemptor Dreadnaughts

Please note that is 0-1 'unit' per player so you may still take 3 Hydra Flak Turrets as oneunit.

    Forge World models

Any player wishing to field Forge World units should have a copy of any and all rules relatingto that model with them for their opponent to use during the game.

Any player using Forge World rules should either be using an Official Forge World model ora conversion that matches the official model for width, height, footprint, line of sight andweapon load out. If a player fields a model which the Referee's deem to be 'modelled foradvantage' they will be asked to remove said model or replace it with a more appropriatepiece.

    DECIDING WHO WINS THE TOURNAMENT

The winner of the Tournament will be the player who scores the most points in thecategories described below. The points scored in each category will be added together, andthe player with the highest total will be the winner. In the case of a tie, the winner will be the

player who scored the most points in the Gameplay category (second tiebreaker -Sportsmanship points). In addition to the overall winner, a number of other awards will alsobe given out.

Trophies/Awards will be given for the following:

1st Overall (player with most tournament points)

    2nd Overall

    3rd Overall

    Best Sportsperson

    Best Presented Army

    OVERALL SCORE BREAKDOWN

    75% Gameplay15% Sportsmanship10% Presentation

    GAMEPLAY (75% Overall Score)

Each game is worth 20 Tournament points (TPs).

The 20 points are divided up depending on who claims the Primary Objective, who claimsthe Secondary Objectives and on the Difference in Attrition Points scored between the 2players.

If one Player Tables another i.e. they wipe out their opponents army they score 20 TPsirrespective of objectives and Victory Points difference. Attrition points are still recorded forTie-breaks however.

If a player concedes the Match they lose 0-20 irrespective of objectives and Attrition pointdifference. They also score 0 Attrition points and their opponent gains the full value of theirarmy for Attrition points.

Primary objective (0-8 points)The player that scores the most Victory Points (VPs) on the Primary objective scores 8 TPs.If each player scores the same number of VPs the primary objective is a draw both playersscore 4 points.

Secondary objective (0-4 points)The player that scores the most VPs on secondary objectives scores 4 TPs. If each playerscores the same number of VPs the secondary objective is a draw both players score 2points.

Attrition points (0-8 points)Calculate the victory point difference between the players and consult the table below:

    301-600 5 3

    901-1200 7 1

    1200+ 8 0

Working out Attrition Points:Regardless of winning, drawing or losing, both players score Attrition Points by destroying ormauling enemy units. As soon as the mission ends and before working out victoryconditions, all units that are falling back are removed and count as destroyed.

A unit, for these purposes, signifies any model or unit that counts as an activation on thebattlefield. For example, a Techmarine with a number of Servitors would count as one unit,an Eldar Avatar would count as one unit, and a squad of Tactical Marines with a Rhinowould count as two units, as both are separate activations. The following Mission Points areavailable:

Destroying units: for each enemy unit you completely destroy in your games scoreMission Points equal to the original cost of that unit.

Mauling units: for each enemy unit you bring to equal or below half its startingnumber of wounds or Hull points, you score Mission Points equal to half the originalcost of that unit, rounding up fractions.

For example, if an enemy unit of ten Space Wolf Grey Hunters worth 150 points isCompletely destroyed and an enemy Wolf Lord worth 100 points is brought down to onewound left, you will score 150 Mission Points for the Grey Hunters and 50 Mission Points forthe Wolf Lord, giving you a total of 200 Mission Points in addition to any earned fromachieving a victory condition.

    SPORTSMANSHIP (15% Overall Score)

After every game each player will be required to mark their opponents sportsmanship.

    Each game can be scored:

Extremely Sporting Opponent 5pts Sporting Opponent 3pts (the default) Unsporting Opponent 0pts

If you feel the need to modify a sporting score you can approach a Referee and explain whyyou would like to change the score for a particular opponent.

At the end of the tournament you will be asked to nominate the opponent who you believewas the most sporting out of the six games. These votes will be used in the event atiebreaker is needed to decide the Best Sportsmanship award.

    PRESENTATION (10% Overall Score)

The TO (or designated Painting Judge) will look at each army during the tournament andmark the painting on the following criteria:

    1. The painting on the models is detailed (e.g. painting is uniform and neat, details such

as belts, buckles, pouches etc are completed)- 4 points2. All models inked/highlighted (e.g. discernible shading and highlights present, the

highlighting/shading is neat and clean, some evidence of blending present etc) - 4points

    3. All models based and flocked - 2 points4. Flock uses 2 different materials (e.g. static grass and rocks) OR made an above

average effort on their bases (e.g. molded cobble stones for example)1 point5. Army has consistent feel (e.g. similar colors, units have distinct variations but overall

theme the same etc) - 3 points6. Some models have been modified (e.g. clear conversion work to introduce variety

includes such areas as green stuff/plasticard modifications, head swaps, armrotations etc)3 points

    7. Character/Centerpiece models are distinctive (extra effort has lavished on thecharacter or centerpiece models to make them distinctive)3 points

These criteria represent a range. However, under the criteria a nicely painted army with aconsistent feel attractively based with inking/highlighting, involving some conversion workand distinctive characters/centerpiece models will score the full 20 points.

Presentation Points give a score out of 20 which will be converted to a 10% contribution ofyour overall score.

    OTHER AWARDS

    BEST SPORTSPERSON

The Best Sportsperson Prize will be awarded to that army that scores the highest score inthe Sportsmanship component of the event scoring. In the event of a tie, Best Sportspersonvotes at the end of the tournament will be used as the tiebreaker.

    BEST PRESENTED ARMY

The Best Presented Army award is for those players who have painted theirENTIRE armythemselves. The reward is intended to provide recognition for those people who have puttheir heart and soul into completing a truly unique army. If the army is either somebody

elses work or represents the joint efforts of more than one person then it is ineligible for thisaward.

Participants will be required to mark on their entry as to whether their army representsentirely their own efforts. In this the Tournament Organizer is relying on the honesty of thoseparticipating in the tournament and believes that nobody would want to receive credit forefforts that were not their own. If you are at all unsure as to whether your army satisfies thecriteria to be included in the Best Presented Army judging please contact the TournamentOrganizer to discuss.

The award will be decided by player voting in the Beauty Pageant. While it is expected thatall armies will be displayed during the Pageant, it will be made clear which armies are

    eligible to receive votes.

    Wolf Cry 2013

    GAME PLAY AND RULES QUESTIONS

The primary purpose of Wolf Cry 2013 is to get together for the weekend, to play ourfavourite game and meet otherplayers who share our interests. Finding champion playersof our games is a by-product of this, and were really much more interested in creating aquality gaming experience for all the people who take part, where they get to play lots of

great games and meet a whole bunch of new players.

This said: we do understand that sometimes even the friendliest of players can lose theircool, especially if the dice have been going against them all day. The most common causeof friction in a game is questions about the rules of the game. Rules questions arise in mostgames of Warhammer 40,000, both because the huge number of variables involved in thegame make it just about impossible for the rulebook to cover every situation that mightoccur, and because different people interpret the rules in different ways. In order to avoidarguments we recommend that you refer to the appropriate rulebook as soon as a questionarises.

The rules used are the 6th edition Warhammer 40,000 rulebook, your army/s relevantCodex/Imperial Armour and FAQ and Errata from the Games Workshop and Forge Worldwebsites. The newest publication should be used in all cases. If the rules do not cover thesituation, then roll a dice to decide what happens. In other words, a friendly dice roll shoulddecide any questions that cannot be answered by referring to the rules. Please note thatthere is absolutely nothing wrong with asking an opponent if they can show you theappropriate rule or set of characteristics so that you can see check for yourself thateverything is being done correctly. All thats required is that you ask politely, and that you doyour best to sort out any problems yourself.

If the problem still cannot be solved then you can call an event official and they mayintervene. Be warned, Umpires usually give players one of two answers to any question they

    are asked.

    1. They will show you the Rule in its relevant place in the rules.2. Roll a D6 to sort out any problems not solved by the above.

The decisions of the Umpires are final, and no further discussion will be entered into.Warning: The TO has a big stick!

    MISSIONS

The missions used for the six games will be a mix of those from the Rulebook and newmissions created by the TO for tournament play. You should therefore plan your armies forany eventuality.

A copy of the missions that will be used will be presented to players at the start of Day Oneof the event.

As there is only a limited time for each game during the day, it is expected that the playersread through the missions prior to commencing their game, in order to be familiar withassociated Universal Special Rules, Victory Conditions etc.

It is the responsibility of every player to be aware of the timetable for the day and be aware

of how much time is available in every game. The TO will not give out time warnings and if agame is not concluded in the time given, he will make a decision on the result of that game.

    Wolf Cry 2013

    FINAL WORDS

The Most Important Rule: The most important rule about playing games of Warhammer40,000 is to have fun! Now while having fun may often be gained by mercilessly crushingyour opponent's forces, never ever forget that you are both there to have fun. Whenever youplay a game, you and your opponent are basically agreeing to duel according to a set offairly abstract rules, with a theoretical ground scale, using representative forces and athousand other subtle agreements that go together to make it work.

The battle itself is a shared experience and great entertainment for both sides of they areboth willing to make it so, No one particularly enjoys playing a game with someone who isoverwrought, irascible and generally mean, or who only plays to win at all costs. That kind ofplayer soon has difficulty finding opponents because they simply aren't much fun to gameagainst. So the most important rule is to play nice and treat your opponent with the respectyou would wish to get back from them so that you both have an enjoyable and excitinggame. If you can do that andmercilessly crush their forces at the same time, then you really

    are a winner.

All that remains is to wish you the very best of luck and every success at the event!
