Our Season in Review by Greg Henning

The Waterloo Wolves Midget AAA Hockey Team experienced more HIGHS this season then they did LOWS.

Back in September the Wolves, fresh from training camp, headed east on the 401 to participate in the popular

Toronto Titans Early Bird Tournament. Our team came together quickly going 2-1-1 in the round robin and qualifying

for the playoff round. We won a close 2-1 game vs Markham Waxers then fell in a very tight 2nd round game 1-0 vs

Richmond Hill. Playing against these skilled teams helped us measure ourselves for upcoming games vs our league

rivals. Confidence was growing heading into the regular season.

We kicked things off with a win in Stratford vs the Huron-

Perth Jr Cullitons. We then travelled to Brantford for the

Alliance League showcase and won all 4 games. Our wins

began to build. Of course we had some losses as all teams

do. Learning curves, life lessons, etc. are part of growing.

The team went on to finish the regular season in 2nd place

with a 26 – 6 record and two tournament Championships

(Kitchener Blueline & the Kelowna

International Elite).

The high for me this season was at

Kelowna. We won all of our games

en route to the Tournament Cham-

pionship. This tournament attracts top teams and is a good measuring stick to see where a

team stands on a national level. To win it is EXCEPTIONAL! To win it takes EXCEPTIONAL

PLAYERS! Our 2015-16 team has those EXCEPTIONAL PLAYERS! ..article continued on page 3

Thank You from Willy Huber In a blink of an eye, another Wolves season has come to an end. I don’t know where the time is going, but time spent

with the Wolves is time well spent.

This season would not have turned out as amazing as it did if it weren’t for the support from the following:

I would like to start off by saying thank you to our generous sponsors. Your assistance allowed the team to participate

in several tournaments this season, one of them being Kelowna where we won it all. This experience allowed the

Wolves to excel and grow as hockey players and outstanding young men. The Wolves definitely embraced the experi-

ence of being able to go to Kelowna and it will be a memory they will never forget. Thank you Sponsors! THANK YOU.

Thank you to the Wolves Operating Committee and Parents for your help throughout the season. Your help with

Chuck-a-puck, Wolfamania, updating our followers on Twitter or any other requests, was greatly appreciated.

We had finished the regular season on a high, returning triumphant from Kelowna and winning all of our remaining regular season

games. When the playoffs started, though, something changed. We struggled in the first round but got through it. Then it was a

match against our forever nemesis, London. The Jr. Knights had their way and our playoff run was over.

The long 6 week wait until the Central Region (aka Provincials) Tournament, which Waterloo hosted, was a challenge. Practice,

practice and only practice (two of those with Jr B Clubs – the Siskins and the Sugar Kings) but that was our path. When we finally

played again at the Provincials, our competitive instinct definitely came out but luck wasn’t in our favour.

Even though we did not achieve the team goal of making it to and winning the Telus Cup, the season was a success in my eyes as

every wolf cub (player) grew to be an “ALPHA WOLF”.

On a personal note, I want to once again thank Assistant Captain Brent West and the players for passing the trophy to me in Ke-

lowna and saying “this is for you and your cousin”. For those who might not be aware, the day after we arrived in Kelowna I re-

ceived a message from home that my cousin Ken had died suddenly. I considered returning home but was encouraged by my fami-

ly to stay as my cousin would have wanted that. This gesture by the team meant a lot to both me and my family.

Congratulations to everyone on a great season and best wishes to all of you in the future.
