What is Réquiem?• Réquiem is the mass that people

do when someone dies.• It is done before the burial.• It belongs to the Catholic Religion.• It is also the name of more than

100 musical compositions used principally to do these liturgical acts, like pieces of concerts.

REQUIEM (MOZART)

•Réquiem’s mass in D (re) minor is a work of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.•It is the nineteenth and last mass written by Mozart. •He died before finishing it, in 1791 in Vienna.

History

• A few days before Mozart realized in Vienna one of his last concerts, one strange man appeared in his house to said him to realize the composition of a requiem and he said to Mozart that he was going to return in one month.

• But he was called from Praga to do the opera ‘’La clemencia de Tito’’ to celebrate the coronation of Leopoldo II.

• When he was going to Vienna the man that asked him for the réquiem apeared.

• Later people discovered that this strange man was Franz Anton Leitgeb, who was an envoy of the count Franz von Walsegg.

• The count Franz von Walsegg was a widower musician that wanted Mozart to compose the requiem mass for his wife and do the people think that he dis it.

• Since his father died, Mozart was obsessed with the death and he ended for believing that he was ‘’The Messenger of the Destination’’.

• He also was thinking that he was doing the requiem mass for his own funeral.

Who finished the requiem?• Mozart died before finishing the

Requiem, and Constanze decided to continue it privately and he went to ask, a good friend of Mozart, that did the first orchestration of Kyrie for his interpretation in the funeral.

• Finally the score went to Franz Xaver Süssmayrwho finished it
