experiences. • Raise your hand if it is not your turn to speak. • Act and speak in a professional way.• Follow the debate procedures• Any team who:• Is not respectful• Interrupts without raising hands• Does not follow rules• Puts classmates downWill have one point deducted from their final score for each offense.

Debate Basics:• If your team is assigned to argue “AGAINST”

something, you are trying to prove the statement or question wrong.

• If your team is assigned to argue “FOR” something, you are arguing in favor of the question or statement. You are taking the role of someone who agrees and is trying to get everyone else to agree too.

• “REBUTTAL” means “comeback”, or the argument that is used to counter the other team’s statements.

Scoring• Miss Graning will moderate the debate.• Mrs. Goidosik will score the arguments. She will be

looking for:• Clear, focused arguments.• Relevant arguments.• Arguments that effectively address the rebuttal.• Supporting evidence from the text.• Each team can receive a maximum of 6pts. Per debate

topic.
