LOS ANGELES: New Yorkpaparazzo Sheng Li deliber-ately kicked Lara Bingle inthe shin while he was ag-gressively shooting themodel and her Australian ac-tor boyfriend Sam Worthing-ton on a Manhattan street, ac-cording to the NYPD.

Worthington retaliated bypunching Li in the face,NYPD lieutenant JohnGrimpel said.

‘‘The photographer hadlacerations to his nose andbruising to his forehead,’’ LtGrimpel said.

The altercation happenedon a Greenwich Village streetcorner about 5.30pm on Sun-day US time (yesterday NTtime) when Li was takingphotos of the Aussie couple.‘‘Li was blocking her pathand taking pictures of her,’’Lt Grimpel said.

‘‘He then, for some reason,kicks her in the shin.

‘‘He is then punched byWorthington and they areboth taken into custody.’’

Asked if the NYPD believedLi kicked Bingle accident-ally, Lt Grimpel replied: ‘‘Iwouldn’t think so. No’’.

Perth-raised Worthington,37, star of the biggest box of-fice film in history, Avatar,was charged with assault andreleased from custody soonafter his arrest. He is sched-uled to appear in a Manhat-tan court midweek.

Li was charged with as-sault, reckless endangermentand harassment and will facea judge before his release.

In November 2012 Worth-ington was accused of shov-ing a bouncer and chargedwith disorderly conduct.

The charges were laterthrown out after the bouncerfailed to turn up at court.

Bingle made headlines lastmonth when she announcedshe was ‘‘quitting Australia’’.

SYDNEY: TV personalityGrant Denyer has denied re-ports he and his wife have adrug addiction.

In a statement yesterday,Denyer said he and his wifeChezzi were saddened by thereports in this week’sWoman’s Day magazine and

were consider-ing legal action.

The statementsaid the couplehad been understress in recentmonths because

Denyer had been battlingchronic fatigue and exhaus-

tion caused by an unknownstomach illness.

Chezzi was also sufferingPTSD and anxiety resultingfrom Denyer’s illness. They’dspent four weeks in a wellnesscentre in Thailand to dealwith their health concerns.

‘‘With their conditions now

under control they are heal-thier and happier than theyhave ever been,’’ the state-ment said.

‘‘Claims the couple have adrug addiction and thatGrant recently lost his Chan-nel 7 contract are both false.

‘‘They are currently tak-

ing legal advice on whataction can be taken againstthe magazine.’’

The rehab facility at thecentre of the reports, TheCabin Chiang Mai, confirmedthe couple had sought treat-ment for a range of physicaland mental health issues.

SYDNEY: An online petitioncalling for the creation of‘‘Charlotte’s Law’’ againstonline bullying has beenlaunched following the deathof Charlotte Dawson.

The petition, launched atChange.org by Dawson’sfriend Em Mastronardi, hadreceived 8000 signatures byyesterday morning.

on the federaland state gov-ernments totake a tougherstance on cyberbullying andfor greater ac-

countability from social me-dia companies.

Mastronardi said themodel and TV personalityfought hard against cyberbullying and had dreamed oferadicating negativity from

social media. She said Daw-son’s death shouldn’t be invain and the petition was away of continuing the battle.
