DearWomenAdvancingAfricaForumParticipant,AboutWomenAdvancingAfricaTheWomenAdvancingAfrica(WAA)Forumisaplatformforwomenacrossthecontinenttocometogethertosetanagendathatwillmassivelyimprovethelivesofwomen(andgirls)acrosstheAfricancontinent. The inaugural Forumwill be launchedon the9th –12thAugust2017 inDares Salaam,Tanzania.TheWAAForumsignifiesanimportantstepinbuildinganenergeticmovementdrivenbywomen.Itpromisestobecolourfulandfestivewhileconvening,connectingandcatalyzingactionbywomentobringaboutsocialandeconomictransformationonourcontinent.WAA will bring together experts and opinion shapers from all walks of life and from diversebackgroundsandagestocelebratewomen’sachievements. Wewill identifycommonsolutionstostrengthenwomen’sparticipationintheeconomy.MainWAAForumProgrammehighlightsinclude:
• SideeventsonLeadership,GirlsEducationandChildMarriage,FoodSystemsandNutrition,WomenEntrepreneurshipDevelopment,andPreferentialProcurement;
• Co-Create breakfast sessions to allow for further sharing of ideas and and deepening ofconnectionsforpartnershipandcollaborationsonissuessuchinnovation,entrepreneurship,leadershipandwellness.
• The launch of a book entitled Women Creating Wealth, featuring the stories of femaleentrepreneursfromacrossAfrica.

Track1:AgribusinessTrack2:Energy,ExtractivesandInfrastructureTrack3:ServicesandTradeTrack4:TechnologyTrack5:FinancialInclusionTrack6:ChangingtheNarrative:MediaandCreativeIndustries
• Each track will convene like-minded women in related sectors to discuss challenges andopportunities in smaller groups. Once together, the women will connect and engage instructured conversations aimed at identifying solutions andpitching new ideas that willbenefitwomeninthatsectorandbeyond;
• Industry-leading speakers, together with the participants, will share their expertise,showcasethelatestinnovations,highlightavailableresourcesanddemonstratealternativebusinessmodelstoinspireandmotivate;
• Eachtrackwillfocusonsocialchange,ensuringthatWAAisaplatformforchangingthelivesofwomenindividuallyandcollectively.Eachtrackwillconvenethreetimesoverthecourseofthe conference, culminating in a final session to identify priorities that can be addressedcollectively.

Researchrevealsthatwomenaregraduallyoccupyingleadershippositionsacrossvarioussectorsandincreasingtheirvisibilityandinfluence.However,whatremainsinsufficientlyexploredisthekindofleadershipwomencanbringtodifferentforaandtheimpacttheirleadershipstylecanhave.Thequestionabouthowwomenmanagethemselvesasleadersalsoremainsundiscussed.Ifwomenembracedtheirauthenticleadershipstyles,theycoulddiversifythekindofdecisionstakentoresolvesocio-economicandpoliticalchallenges.However,ifwomenembarkedonajourneytowardstheirtrueselves,theycoulddiscoverthatthemakingofgreatnessisinourvulnerabilities.Aninnovativementorshipappwillbepresentedtopromoteandsupportyoungupcomingwomeninbusinessandcareers.

The2013FoodandAgricultureOrganizationreportstatesthatfoodsystemsencompassallthepeople,institutionsandprocessesbywhichagriculturalproductsareproduced,processedandbroughttoconsumers.Aspopulationsgrowandtechnologyimprovesglobally,foodsystemsarerapidlychanging.Thistransformationhashadbothpositiveandnegativeimpactsonconsumerchoiceandnutrition.Theexpandedrangeofchoicesenablesconsumerstomakeinformeddecisionsintheirselectionoffoodsforconsumption.However,thewayfoodisbeingproduced,stored,transported,marketedandconsumed,inmanycasesunderminesadvancesmadeinimprovinghealthoutcomes,makingmostfoodslosetheirnutritivevalue.Thelong-termeffectislowqualitydiets.Improvednutritionaloutcomesrequirepredominantlylocalproductionofadiversevarietyofnutritiousfoods,includinggrains,fruitsandvegetables.Moreneedstobedonetoensurethatagricultureandfoodsystemscontributetoafoodenvironmentthatdeliversdiversedietsandsupportsgoodnutritionoutcomes.Thissessionwill
