Introduction Of WomenEntrepreneurship

Women entrepreneurs are playing veryimportant role in any developing economy interm of their contribution to economic

development.

Globalized economy provides variousavenues of employment to women in

agriculture and industries and thus helpthem to find new ways of supplementingtheir family income.

Due to the increase in cost of living, it hasbecome necessary for women to undertakeeconomic activities and support their

families.



Meaning Of WomenEntrepreneur

Women entrepreneur means “ When the

women take lead and organize the industryand give jobs to women is called women

entrepreneurs”According to Government of India, a womanentrepreneur is defined as "an enterprise

owned and controlled by a woman andhaving a minimum financial interest of 51% ofthe capital and giving at least 51% ofemployment generated in the enterprise to

women.



Definition Of Women Entrepreneur

According to Schumpiter :

“ women who innovate, imitate or adopt a

business activity are called as womenentrepreneur”



Need for Women Entrepreneur

The number of women entrepreneurs is verylow India. Out of 2 million entrepreneurs, thewomen entrepreneurs accounted for only

10% of the total number of entrepreneurs.Where as the percentage of womenentrepreneurs in America is more then 50%

of total entrepreneurs. In India, womenentrepreneurs is gathering momentum slowly.Following factors emphasize the need for

women entrepreneurship.




Economist necessity.

Self-actualization.

Independence.

Education.

Government support and policies.

Women empowerment.Cost of living.




Some business require women.

Self identify and social status.

Family occupation.

Self confidence.

Pull and push factors.

Utilization of spare time etc….




ECONOMIC NECESSITY :

Modern living is becoming costly.Therefore, women want to increase theirfamily income by establishing variousenterprises like tailoring units, beautyparlours, food articles etc. business is a

source of income for such womenentrepreneurs.




SELF- ACTUALIZATION:

Many women want to achieve biggoals. Business is means to such a womenwho wants to accomplish greater things intheir life. Business provides opportunities forher self-expression, achievement and

growth. Hence, women entrepreneurship isnecessary.




INDEPENDENCE :

A modern and educated woman wants financial

independence. Therefore, such educated women are

in need of a business enterprise. They start one orthe other enterprises to utilizes there spare time andearn profit.




EDUCATION:

Women literacy and education is gaining toppriority and importance. Educated women prefer job

or self-employment. Therefore, business offers lot ofopportunities to educated women. Spread ofeducation is forcing women to go in for business.




GOVERNMENT SUPPORT AND PRACTICE:

There is a consideration pressure on thegovernment to improve the condition of women.

United nations organization and women’s associationare bringing pressure on the government to empowerthe women.




WOMEN EMPOWERMENT.

Spread of modern education, effects of massmedia, government support to women etc., are

making women financially strong. There is need toeliminate discrimination between men and women.Therefore, the government, financial institutions etc.are working with a view to strengthen the women and

attracting the women towards business activities.




COST OF LIVING :

Modern days are costly. Only one man’s earning

are not sufficient to lead a reasonable ( fair and

sensible) life. Therefore, many women are enteringinto business in order to earn and supplement (enhance) the family income




SOME BUSINESS REQUIRE WOMENENTREPRENEUR:

There are some businesses, which require

women entrepreneurs. In other words, womenentrepreneurs are best fitted to some business, for.e.g., beauty parlor, ladies wares, vegetables,household utensils ( tools or container) medical

stores etc. Therefore , there is an absolute necessityof women entrepreneurs.




SELF IDENTIFY AND SOCIAL STATUS :

Women participation in business is necessary togain self identity, Social status, prestige etc. start their

business. business offers to women the necessaryrecognition status, prestige, reputation.




Family occupation :

family occupation is always an influencing factor forwomen to participate in business along with her

husband and other family members. It has becomenecessary for women to undertake economicactivities and support their families in familyoccupation due to increase in cost of living.




SELF CONFIDENCE:

Women lack of self- confidence. It is particularlytrue in developing countries like India. Therefore, it is

necessary to encourage women to participate more inbusiness with a view to boost their self-confidence.




Pull and push factor:

Two factors are identified as causes for awomen entering the field of entrepreneurship, there

are:Pull factor: Women want to become independent.She is more educated and aware of her rights. Shewants to start her independent business thatmotivates her to become entrepreneurs. Society andgovernment should understand this need of womenand encourage her to become entrepreneur.




UTILIZATION OF SPARE TIME :

Women have got a lot of spare time. Thisspare time should be channelized towards business

activities which suppliants their income. Therefore, itIs necessary for women to set up enterprises to utilizetheir spare time and increase their earning.
