Women and Islam

Page 2: Women in islam

• [16:97] Anyone who works righteousness, male or female, while believing, we will surely grant them a happy life in this world, and we will surely pay them their full recompense (on the Day of Judgment) for their righteous works.

• This ayah illustrates that men and women are truly equal in the eyes of Allah.

• Therefore Allah does not favour male over female or female over male and both genders will be held accountable for their sins on the day of judgement in the exact same way.

• In this case, in contemporary society everything needs to be egalitarian between both genders as this is a requirement for all Muslims from god to be met in order to fulfil their duty on earth.

• "Whatever men earn, they have a share of that and whatever women earn, they have a share in that." [Noble Quran 4:32]

This shows that there is no restriction in Islamic law that says a woman cannot work or have a profession, that her only place is in the home.

In fact, by definition, in a truly Islamic society, there must be women physicians, women nurses, women teachers.

And if she chooses to work, or if she's married with the consent of her husband, she's entitled to equal pay.

Therefore this again shows that women and men should be treated equally as god treats both genders in the same way.

• They are clothing for you and you are clothing for them.” Qur’an 2:187

• Here, Clothing provides comfort, warmth and security as well as making one look good – therefore this is how the relationship between the husband and wife is defined in Islam.

• So in this case, men should not be seen as the boss of the house and women as their slave by doing all the house work.
