Dear WRC donors, sponsors, volunteers, and funders,

Thank you for making this a record-breaking year! With your help, the Women’s Resource Center served 2,622 women and girls in the last fiscal year, more than ever in our history. Our board, staff and volunteers worked diligently to enhance our services and increase our impact. Here are just a few highlights of our accomplishments:

• Expanded operations as we approach the half million-dollar mark.

• Our highly trained Helpline volunteers provided caring, personalized and needed support to 1406 Helpline callers.

• A record 190 girls from 11 schools participated in Girls Lead.

• Provided 460 professional Resource Coordination sessions for 125 women navigating challenging transitions in their lives.

• Increased our financial supporters (by 41%) – welcome and thank you for joining us!

• Began implementing a strategic diversity and inclusion plan to enhance cultural competency throughout WRC.

• Hosted an inspiring Leadership Luncheon featuring Karen Dougherty Buchholz, Senior Vice President of Administration for Comcast Corporation and Lisa Thomas-Laury, former Philadelphia news anchor.

To help women and girls successfully navigate life’s transitions and inspire others to do the same. By providing resources, tools, and support for today, we create hope for tomorrow.

That when provided with connections to the right resources with adequate support and the necessary information and skills, women and girls can thrive through life transitions, enhancing financial stability and well-being for themselves as well as their families.

Expected and unexpected transitions in life can disrupt one’s financial stability and overall well-being. Women and girls are particularly vulnerable to this disruption due to the wealth and wage gaps, as well as differences in societal expectations for caregiving roles.

Theory of Social Change

Women and girls facing expected and unexpected life transitions, including but not limited to: adolescence, employment/career changes, illness or death of a spouse, retirement, divorce, loss of housing as well as changes in parenting status and marital or relationship status.

WRC lost an irreplaceable friend and advocate when Jenny Webb passed away from cancer on July 28, 2017. A licensed mental health counselor, Jenny volunteered in nearly every available role for more than 30 years at WRC - from Helpline volunteer to volunteer counselor to board president. Her dedication to helping women improve their lives generated lasting results for those she encountered and shaped the organization that WRC is today.

The outpouring of gifts made in Jenny’s memory is just one example of the lives she touched. Her spirit remains evident in our Helpline volunteers who provide reassurance and resources, through our staff who guide with careful skill, and among our board as they lead WRC into the future. Should we forget Jenny’s legacy for a moment, the goldfinches that gather by our front porch each summer remind us that Jenny’s greatest joy was making the people around her happy, and inspire us to follow her lead!
