Crystal Palace caused a huge shock in the F.A.Women's Cup as theydefeated Premier League Derby County 2-0 to reach the Fourth Round. In front of a large and vocal crowd, Derbystarted the game well but the London & South EastLeague side settled down and Roschelle Shakes twicewent close to giving them the lead. The pattern of thegame continued in the second half Fran Ferrari andShakes having opportunities but in the 62nd minute,Palace took the lead when a good move involving JadeDavenport, Kirsty Mitchell and Shakes was finished offby Jenny Kikomeko. With just under fifteen minutesremaining, Kikomeko cut in from the right and crashedan unstoppable shot into the roof of the net to seal afamous victory for Palace, who will now be at home toPortsmouth.

Brighton & Hove Albion came through apotentially awkward tie away to Plymouth Argyle with a4-0 victory under their belts and they now travel to the Ricoh Arena to play CoventryCity. Cally Beaumont went close to giving the Seagulls an early lead but on the 25minute mark, Tammy Waine did open the scoring through a superb long range strikewhich found the top corner. Laura Perrett hit the bar for Argyle shortly afterwards andJodie Chubb also struck the post early in the second half, with Kirsty Barton having ashot cleared off the line at the other end and Charlotte Owen hitting the woodwork fromdistance. However Brighton were not to be denied and Barton finished off a good teammove to double her side's lead and two minutes later, Rebecca Merritt put them furtherahead with a well struck left foot shot. Paula Howells forced a fine save from MichaelaPhillips but Brighton rounded off the scoring five minutes from time, Kim Whitcombefollowing up to score after Barton's free kick had come back off the post.

Blackburn Rovers ended the Cup hopes of Middlesbrough by beating them3-0. Evie Manning gave Rovers a first half lead and the striker went on to complete agood day for her and her side after the break, netting twice more to complete a hat-trick. In the second half, Cardiff forced a series of corners butLewes stood firm and held out for a well earned point. The result means that Cardiff now head the table by a point from Gillingham, whohave a game in hand, with Coventry City and Portsmouth still on the fringes of the race. Millwall Lionesses 1 Reading Women 2Reading Women came from behind to progress to theFourth Round of the FA Women’s Cup at the expenseof Millwall Lionesses at Meridian Sports Club.

The victory was also a first for new ReadingWomen boss Jayne Ludlow in her managementdebut in a competitive match. This battle of FA WSL 2 rivals was highlycommitted and played at a frantic pace on a 3Gsurface conducive to passing football. The match wasdecided by a superb finish from Francesca Kirby witharound fifteen minutes to go to win a tie in whichReading always had the edge in attacking fluency butwere denied by resolute defence from the Lionesses, particularly in the second half. The home team had started strongly and hadcreated good chances in an even first half. Emma Whitter had rattled Nicky Davies' postbefore giving Millwall the lead on 24 minutes. Poor defending on the left wing allowedLillie Billson to cross for Whitter to place a stooping header past Davies. The pace ofKirby, Lauren Bruton and Helen Ward caused several scrambles in front of goal beforeBruton equalised from the spot after she had been tripped making her way towards goalon 38 minutes. Reading dominated the second half to he extent that Davies barely touched theball after the break whereas Quantrill was regularly called upon to save from Kirby,Ward, Lois Roche and Kirsty McGee. Kirby hit the post after turning her marker andMillwall defended valiantly to clear a succession of crosses and remain competitive inthe tie. Just when extra time was starting to loom on the horizon, Reading got the winnertheir play deserved. Kirby run on to a loose ball and hit a looping long range drive firsttime, sending the ball into the top right corner, an effort worthy of winning the tie andsetting up a home match against WPL Northern Division team Blackburn Rovers in theFourth Round. The most impressive feature of the match was the sheer pace, effort andcommitment shown by both sets of players in their first competitive match for eightmonths. Ironically, these clubs had fought a season long battle for the WPL SouthernDivision title last year with the decision going narrowly to Reading after a showdown atthe Den. Here, in very different surroundings, with very different line ups on both sides, another fierce contest went the way of the Berkshire club.Millwall Lionesses: Sarah Quantrill, Sophie Perry, Sinead Boyer, Dionne Lennon,Naomi Cole, Angela Kiobel, Stevie Lamb, Leeta Rutherford, Lillie Billson, Kim Stenning,Emma Whitter. Subs: Francesca Gibbs, Emma Plewa, Ciara Sherwood, FrancescaStrugnell, Nicole Pepper, Shirvae Edwards, Shauni Griffiths.Reading Women: Nicky Davies, Becky Jane, Alexandra Keown, Ciara Grant, ShellyCox, Lois Roche, Kirsty McGee, Georgina Giddins, Lauren Bruton, Helen Ward,Francesca Kirby. Charlton Athletic 0 Sheffield FC 6Sheffield FC cruised into Round Four of the FAWomen's Cup by brushing aside Charlton Athletic bysix goals to nil at SC Thamesmead. Four goals in ten first half minutes settled the tiebefore the half hour mark and the visitors maintainedtheir control with two additional strikes, despite animproved performance from the hosts. Sheffield willnow travel to WSL 2 side Durham Women in Round Four. Nothing in the opening fifteen minutessuggested anything other than a tightly contested tiewith neither team creating a real opening. Howeveronce Sheffield started to find their passing range thechances came thick and fast. Charlton keeper MegenLynch made a fine point blank stop from Ellie Gilliatt butwas powerless to stop Carla Ward's low finish from LisaGiampalma's chipped through ball on 18 minutes. Suzanne Davies added a delightful second, controlling a high pass beforethumping a 20-yard shot beyond Lynch on 23 minutes. Two minutes later Kerry Parkinadded the third from the edge of the area before Jodie Michalska headed a fourth as sherose unchallenged to head home after a clever coner routine undid the home defence. With the outcome all but settled with an hour still to play, Sheffield continued tomove the ball around impressively to create openings whereas Charlton struggled tomake an impression on the experienced Sheffield rearguard. Claire Wallhead in thevisitors goal made one impressive save from a dipping cross but was otherwiseuntroubled before the break. Charlton returned with better attacking intent and Sam Pittuck was inches awayfrom reducing the deficit on 53 minutes with a cross shot, then Kit Graham went equallyclose with glancing header from a free kick. Play was held up when home skipper JennyNewman was injured in a challenge and any lingering hopes of a stirring comeback weresquashed when Davies powered her way to the line and sent in a perfect cross forMichalska to volley home at the far post for the fifth on 67 minutes. Sheffield added a sixth when Davies was denied by a fine block by Katie Flack, only for the ball to fall for Ward to lash in her second from close range on 77 minutes. The power and excellent teamwork of the victors was highly impressive. Anna Signeul believes last week's workout against Finland was awelcome warm-up for March's Cyprus Cup. Scotland's women's national team lost 3-1 in the EerikkiläSports Institute, Kim Little scoring their goal, but the result was ofsecondary importance to reacquainting the squad during what is theoff-season for many of its players. With Scotland ideally placed in World Cup 2015 QualifyingGroup 4 - top of the group after taking maximum points from their firstfour games - Anna has planned for her squad to be an even morepowerful proposition for the resumption of the qualifying campaign inApril, with a double-header against Poland and Bosnia-Herzegovina. Scotland have been drawn to play Holland, France andAustralia in next month's Cyprus Cup and Anna will use all threegames to ensure the team are ready to reaffirm their qualificationcredentials ahead of two potentially decisive fixtures against theGroup 4 favourites, Sweden. "While it would have been nicer to win against Finland, the most important thing wasto have the group together again," she told www.scottishfa.co.uk. "Remember, for many ofour players this is pre-season and although we should have been stronger in both penaltyboxes, I felt we played well. "We had some injuries and brought in some younger players so overall it was a goodexperience and continues our preparations for the Cyprus Cup where we will be playingagainst some very tough opposition, which again can only help us before the World Cupqualifying campaign resumes." Christie Murray and Emma Mitchell, both of Arsenal Ladies, were given an opportunityto impress against Finland and while Anna will utilise her full squad during the Cyprus Cup,she will do so mindful of the need to maintain momentum in the quest to make the quantumleap to qualification for next year's World Cup in Canada. "What is really encouraging is that we are definitely stronger, fitter and more powerful,"said Anna, "and we will need to continue that improvement if we want to reach the finals. Ihave said already that I believe we can qualify after narrowly missing out in recent campaignsbut it will be extremely difficult. While it will be useful to experiment, we must also realise thestrength of those who have helped us to four victories in our qualifying matches so far. "The Cyprus Cup is a chance to show that we have improved. I am happy with how fitwe are, how sharp we can be in attack - even if we didn't show that in Finland - and we alsoneed to be stronger in our own box. "I am happy with how we are progressing and I am sure we will be ready in time forthe qualifiers against Poland and Bosnia-Herzegovina."

Crystal Palace stole the headlines on Sunday with a shock 2-0victory over Premier League side Derby County in the F.A.Women'sCup Third Round. We spoke to Eagles striker Roschelle Shakes and shereflected with great pride on the win and the support the teamreceived on the day, whilst looking forward to their Fourth Round tieagainst Portsmouth:Many congratulations on your win over Derby, do you feel theresult was a deserved one?Yes very much so, on the whole for much of the game it remainedcompetitive and I believe on balance we created more clear cutchances. Derby did create goalscoring opportunities, as would be expected of a Premier Leagueside, but so did we - I was guilty of missing a couple!! Though definitely on reflection, we playedvery well and deserved the win.You had a large and noisy Palace crowd following you, how good an occasion was it?The crowd was our 12th woman. For many of the team it was the first time they have playedunder such an atmosphere. For me, being a bit more experienced, it added to the occasion andcreated that FA Cup atmosphere. All of the girls said that the crowd played a massive part inencouraging us, I do think they were quite intimidating for the opposition also.Did you approach the match with confidence that you could win?Yes, Dean (our manager), Rich and Ray (our coaches) and the rest of the support staff had toldus during preparation that we had as much right as anybody to be in the position we were in andto not be daunted by the difference in league status. I think personally the difference wasmade during the half team talk which emphasised that we very much played ourselves in thegame and it was our chance to go and win it, which i think spurred us on for the second half. Now you will be at home to Portsmouth, do you and the team feel you can do it all overagain? We have to have confidence but not arrogance to do so. I think that most people involved in thewomen's game would have predicted that this little regional team is going to have their fun dayout but lose. The result against Derby has given us the belief that we are good enough.Portsmouth are going to be a very different opposition, but as you know with cup games its whatyou put in for those 90 minutes and we will go into the game with that belief. The last few years have not been great ones for Crystal Palace, is this the sort of resultwhich suggests a much brighter future?I have only started playing for Palace this season, but immediately I was impressed with theprofessionalism that runs through the whole club, so unfortunately I cannot comment on previousseasons. What I can say is that yes, from the outset, Dean and the club have very high butrealistic aspirations for us girls and this is a step in the right direction as well as our focus on theleague. You are still well involved in the title race in your league, are there any concerns that thecup run might distract things from that?Definitely not! As i said in my previous answer we have our target to win the league and that isvery much still on the agenda for the whole team and management. This run in the FA Cup, asI see it, is reward for our hard work and effort that we are putting into training and games. This week you are due to go to Westfield in the Surrey County Cup, weather permitting, will it be hard for the team to get their feet back on the ground? No, we want to be as successful as we can in all the competitions that we are part of, we do notprioritise one thing over the other. Normal routine was resumed and we had training on Tuesday, yes of course there was a buzz at training, which only feeds well for the game on Sunday. However Dean is at hand to keep our feet firmly on the ground! He put us through our paces!

Solar Ladies have been celebrating winning the Division One North title in the East MidlandsLeague and promotion to the Premier Division next season. "Solar Ladies FC, East Midlands Division One North Champions" is not a sentenceanyone anticipated when the season began. The club was playing only its second season inladies senior football after coming up from the Lincolnshire Girls and Ladies League where, intheir last campaign, they finished runners-up. This achievement is the reward of lot of hard workboth on and off the pitch and a real team spirit from what is a very young squad of players.            At its core, the club owes much of its success to its off field backroom volunteers whoinclude managers Andy Thornton and Glynn Cooke, both with ample experience in coachingthe beautiful game. With them. Gary Summers and Nathan Stockwood provide much neededadditional support in many different areas that all go a long way to keep the club runningsmoothly.            At the beginning of the season the club added a little more experience to the team in thesignings of Clare Pitcher and Sue Green who have played in higher divisions and both broughtadded quality to a keen and talented young squad.           The season started off with a fine 3-1 home win against Alfreton Town and the seasoncontinued with two more home wins before an away victory at Mansfield, the team had startedto find its feet at the new improved level and were now starting to make their mark on the league. The ladies suffered their only defeat of the season away to Sandiacre Town of the PremierDivision in the Cup in what was undoubtedly their worst performance of the season. Solar soon bounced back with two victories before playing Notts County  away and inwhat was their best performance of the season, came away with a morale boosting 3-0 win. Theseason continued with two hard fought draws at Sleaford and home to local rivals GrimsbyTown. The team's form continued and its successful pattern with the title finally confirmed in avery hard fought 1-0 win over Mansfield.            The managers at the club feel that every squad member has played their part in thesuccess with keeper Beth French keeping six clean sheets and defenders Lauren Baumber,Taylor Cuthbertson, Jayde Sleight, Rachel Turner and sisters Charley and Clodagh Summersall proving vital to Solar Ladies being the tightest defence in the league. Along with having themeanest defence in the league, Solar Ladies have scored sixty three goals so far with strikersToni McHamilton, Lottie Soar, Nat Aird and Claire Pitcher sharing 47 goals between them.            Throughout the year the team has played some very attractive football from back to frontwith the managers preaching total football which has made the girls use possession of the ballto keep a tight defence and create plenty of chances. The combination of Sue Green, DaniellaWhitworth, Ellie Casson, Charlotte Townsend have helped win the ball back quickly and provideplenty of ammunition for the forwards. Midfielder and captain Lisa Cromey`s versatility andleadership qualities have been at the forefront of the season, her never say die attitude andprofessionalism in giving 100% no matter where she has played, has been an inspiration forothers to follow.                     Despite having fixtures in theleague and cup to fulfil, the club arealready making plans    for next seasonand appreciate the step up is going to bea difficult but not impossible one and arealready looking forward to the challenge.            The club is extremely fortunateto have great support from players'families and friends and this goes a longway in ensuring the success on thepitch, Solar are also very grateful to theirfantastic sponsors Unite the union andArkema resins and coatings and hope tocontinue in their relationship with them.

The manypostponements mean that they have not played a league match since December butthey have also done well in the Premier League Cup and are set to play Sheffield FC inthe quarter finals next month. The signing of Sarah Danby has proved to be a shrewd one and she is currentlythe club's leading goalscorer and Caroline Omboyi has been a regular on thescoresheet in recent seasons. The likes of Charlotte Stuart, Emma Dobson, AimeeDriver, Chantelle O'Hara, Bridie Hannon and Carrie Simpson have all been regulars thisseason. Off the field, Sally Thackray undertakes the role of Chair and Secretary while JoWoodcock is Fundraising Officer. Jess Pearson and Charlotte Stuart occupy thepositions of Player Liaison Officer and Football Development Officer respectively. Thackley AFC will host an interesting tie between two clubs who will be morethan satisfied with their seasons so far in all competitions. The winners will be at homein the Fourth Round to either Leeds Utd or London Bees.Bradford City (from): Carrie Simpson, Emma Dobson, Aimee Driver, Faye Boshell,Paige Crosby, Bridie Hannon, Charlotte Stuart, Chantelle O'Hara, Sarah Danby,Rebecca Kendell, Jodie Redgrave, Abby Hunt, Rachel Lee, Rosie McDonnell, AbbyParkin, Molly-Mae Sharpe, Caroline Omboyi.Cardiff City Ladies (from): Sophie Dando, Lauren Townsend, Nicola Cousins, KellyAldridge, Louise Hutton, Kayleigh Green, Kelly Isaac, Michelle Green, Paige Stewart,Naomi Clipston, Beth Lloyd, Cori Williams, Hannah Daley, Zoe Atkins, Hannah Mills,Annie Pritchard.

Cardiff Met Ladies remain on course for a potential Welsh trophy 'treble' after theyadvanced to the semi finals of the FAW Women's Cup with a 5-0 victory over CardiffCity FC. In the tie of the round between the top two in the Shared Access Welsh PremierWomen's League, Cardiff Met took the lead after seven minutes through Emily Brownand they added further goals before half time from Laura Walkley and Chloe O'Connor.Brown struck again, seven minutes into the second half, to make it four with EmilyAllen completing the win with the final goal, a quarter of an hour from time. One other tie managed to survive the weather on Sunday and it is PILCS whoare in the last four after negotiating a tricky tie away to Cwmbran Celtic with a 2-0 win. However this did not tell the full story as the WPWL high fliers were given a hardgame by their lower league rivals in a thrilling derby cup tie, Alana Murphy went closeto opening the scoring for Cwmbran in the second half. Lyndsey Davies hit the bar forPILCS at the other end and there were further chances for both teams until the finalminute, when PILCS were awarded a penalty. Kate Jeremiah stepped up but SuYoung guessed right and kept her shot out to send the game into extra time. The first period could not produce a breakthrough and penalties were loomingbut with six minutes left, PILCS broke the deadlock when Amy Thrupp broke throughto lift the ball over Young and open the scoring. Cwmbran threw everything they couldforward to try and grab an equaliser but the game was made safe when LyndseyDavies scored a well taken goal on the counter attack to finally put an end toCwmbran's brave effort and send the Pontypool-based side into the semi finals for thesecond year in succession.

Caernarfon Town's home tie with Llanfair Utd and the other quarter finalbetween Swansea City and Wrexham were both postponed and will be played thisweek.

Eni supports Game for EqualityChelsea striker Eniola Aluko believes this weekend's Game for Equality between Chelsea andEverton can have an impact for good all over the world after lending her support to theinitiative. Aluko, who was born in Nigeria before moving to England as a baby, believes clubs likeChelsea have a duty to promote equality and says this Saturday's game is the perfect way toshowcase the good work being done by so many organisations.  "Football clubs, especially those with a huge following need to support equality as themessages those clubs carry are so important," she said.  "They have an impact all over the world so when a club like Chelsea stands up and says,'this isn't right, we are against all forms of discrimination,' everybody else will buy in to it all over theworld.  "What the club says has an impact in places where things aren't as accepted as they arein England and it is important that we keep doing it and eventually that message will becomenormality so we won't have to say it anymore."  Last week England captain Casey Stoney spoke publicly for the first time about being gayand Aluko believes her international team mate's courage can prove an inspiration to everyone.  "There is an issue in society with people just being themselves, whether you are black orwhite, you've got a different religion or sexual orientation, and there is a problem, particularly withyoung people being able to be themselves and to be confident in their own skin," she said.  "When someone comes out and says, "this is me, take it or leave it," it empowers peopleand makes them think if she or he can do that then so can I and that is the most important thing.  "It is not about individuals, it is about the knock-on impact of people being okay with whoyou are, whoever they are. It's important that people know it is okay to be who you are and if you feeldifferent that is something to be celebrated and when you celebrate who you are it trumps ignorance.  "All the things you think people may think about you, that gets defeated when you comeout and say I am happy with who I am.  "I hate to sound philosophical about it but that is something society needs, whoever youare. So for someone like Casey to do that highlights it even more and is important."  The Game for Equality will see Chelsea FC's Building Bridges initiative join forces withKick It Out, Football v Homophobia, the Premier League and the Football Association to underlinethe commitment to tackling discrimination in all forms.

Notts County get nutritional supportNotts County Ladies F.C. has partnered with Forever, leading suppliers of aloe vera-based drinkinggels and supplements, to support the ladies team in their football training as they prepare for the startof the season. Club nutritionist Matt Lawson said: "I cannot emphasise enough the importance of havingwhat I call a 'real food' diet, however during intense training we are finding Forever's products helpfulas part of our nutritional programme.  "We've been using the products for a couple of months now. The team is using 'ForeverFreedom', an aloe vera juice containing glucosamine, ideal for those interested in mobility. We'reseeing some good results with the Argi+ isotonic drink which contains the amino acid L-arginine andvitamin C; early signs are that it reduces fatigue and tiredness during intense training."  Notts County's ladies team boasts nine international level players after three new signingslast month, including England and Great Britain utility player Dunia Susi who joins the team fromChelsea, Rachel Unitt from Birmingham City and Katie Holtham, who returns to her home team.  It's not just the Ladies team that are benefitting. Les Bradd, Notts County's top goalscorerof all time and now an ambassador for the club, is an advocate of the aloe vera drinking gel.  Bob Parker, Forever UK's Managing Director added: "Our aloe vera products are used bymillions around the world every day, supporting healthy lifestyles. Being adopted by top athletes is apowerful and important milestone and we couldn't be more proud. We will be following the team'ssuccess with interest as the season gets underway."

Walker and Abbi Grant all made their starting debuts with another six players making their firstappearance for City coming off the bench, giving a total of eight players under the age of 17 yearsold playing for the SWPL Champions.  Glasgow City struck first blood in what at times was a scrappy first half. Everton failed todeal with a City corner and Denise O'Sullivan struck a low powerful drive into the bottom corner togive her side the lead. Everton and English youth international Nikita Parris hit the equaliser shortlybefore half time as she found the back of the net in a crowded penalty box.  A mistake by City keeper Lee Alexander just after half time gifted the visitors a goalthrough Simone Magill, before match sponsor ng homes Player of the Match, Leanne Ross, equalised direct from a City corner.  With both sides pushing for the winner, City went close through O'Sullivan and EilishMcSorley, but in the 90th minute it was the Blues who struck the decisive goal as Parris scrambledthe ball over the line after an Everton corner.  Glasgow City will complete their pre-season schedule when they take on the re-launchedEnglish side, Manchester City, at Petershill Park next Sunday at 2pm. The ambitious English outfitshould provide a stern test having recently recruited England Internationals Jill Scott, Toni Duggan,Steph Houghton and goalkeeper, Karen Bardsley, ahead of their inaugural season in the FAWomen's Super League.  Tickets are available for that match from the Glasgow City websitewww.glasgowcityladiesfc.co.uk or spectators can pay on the day at the turnstile. Home comforts in CupAll four quarter finals in the Sheffield & Hallamshire County Cup ended in home wins to provide asemi-final line up of Doncaster Belles (Women) v Steel City Wanderers and Sheffield FC Ladies vOughtibridge (to be played Sunday 9th March, with the final a fortnight later). Holders Sheffield were 7-2 winners over Huddersfield who contributed to a lively andcloser contest than the score suggests. Lynn Goodman fired Sheffield ahead in a first half whichstretched to over an hour, chiefly because of  a 15 minute break after Town keeper Charlotte Oateslanded badly and suffered a suspected dislocated elbow. Sheffield netted three times in the lengthyfirst half stoppage time, Carla Ward (pen), Issy Hayes and Abbie McManus all on the mark pastAlarna Fuller in the 45+ time zone. Sheffield’s second half goals came from Ellie Gilliatt, Becky Leeand an opponent. However, no-one could begrudge Town what proved deserved, thoughconsolation, goals from Deb Hastings and Emily Heckler (pen). Oughtibridge beat Hemsworth 3-0 thanks to goals from Chloe Roebuck, Codi Melia andChelsea Burke.
