Australian Early Development CensusAustralian Early Development Census

Playing our part to build a national picture of child healthPlaying our part to build a national picture of child health

In early 2021, our school, along with thousands of othersacross the country will begin preparations for the fifthAustralian Early Development Census (AEDC).

The AEDC gives us a national picture of the development, health and wellbeing of children in their first year of full-timeschool. Since 2009, the census results have helpedcommunities, schools and governments plan services anddevelop better policies to target support for children andfamilies.

Children don’t miss any class time, and parents/carers don’tneed to supply schools with any new information for thecensus. The AEDC gives us data at a school and communitylevel - it isn’t an assessment of individual children.

Some teachers have also noticed that completing theassessments made them more aware of the needs ofindividual children and the class as a whole and that thecensus results are useful in planning for transitions to Year 1and developing class programs.

• If you are sick, DO NOT ATTEND.

• Sign in via the Check In Qld App or paper copyavailable at key entry points. Sanitise hands at entry.

• Spectators will be required to remain in the markedout spectator areas only.

• Social distancing of 1.5m is to occur between adults.

• All instructions from school staff must be abided by.

2

Participation in the AEDC is voluntary. Parents/carers don’tneed to take any action unless they choose not to include theirchildren in the census.

To find out more about the census and how communities areusing the data to help children and families visit the AEDCwebsite:

Wondall Heights State School will be completing the census5-14 May 2021 with our prep students only. If you have anyquestions, you can contact Sarah Abbot on 3906 6444 [email protected].
