GREETINGS,

As a former strategic consultant to Wonders & Worries and prior member of our Finance Committee, I am honored to be addressing you for the first time as Executive Director. Most importantly, as a former client who has experienced the benefits of our organization first-hand, I feel privileged to help play a role in making our services available to more families in need than ever before.

While celebrating 16 years of work in Central Texas and passing the 7,000 children and families served mark, I am pleased to report that in fiscal year 2017, we were also able to begin delivering on some of our growth objectives.

In FY17 we opened a new office in Georgetown, Texas, serving Williamson County, and hired a new certified child life specialist to staff it, Julie May. We also were able to add a full-time outreach position to grow awareness of our services, particularly among the medical community. Nicole Halder, former Board of Directors President and also a Wonders & Worries client, accepted this position with gusto.

We were also able to start laying the foundation for future expansion:

We partnered with the Children’s Bereavement Center of South Texas and the START Center for Cancer Care to launch a pilot program delivering our services in San Antonio.

We continued enrollment in our randomized clinical trial with the University of Texas at Austin School of

Social Work to give us evidence-based research on the significance of our illness education curriculum. We made significant investments in upgrading and standardizing our technology infrastructure to support our organizational needs.

Looking ahead, we will continue to invest in opportunities to expand our services geographically, initially in other areas of Texas. We are looking at ways to reach more families through the innovative use of online, telephone, video conferencing and mobile technologies and platforms.

In conjunction with new opportunities, we will continue to focus on delivering our core services to all those in need - free of charge. We are proud of our 96% client satisfaction rating and look forward to continuing to make a difference with families facing serious illness.
