Professional Learning

ACEs

Adverse Childhood Experiences

Compromise brain development and negatively affect children's physical, emotional, behavioral, social and cognitive development

When sustained over a long period of time, can result in toxic stress

The toxic stress response developed means their brain and body are on high alert and more likely to shift into survival mode at the slightest provocation

In this state, higher order brain functioning is put on hold to devote resources to the fight, flight, or freeze response.

TEAMWORK AT WMS

Teamwork is the ability to work together towards a common vision. The ability to

direct individual accomplishments towards a unified objective. It is the fuel that

allows common people to attain uncommon results.

Page 20: Woodland PreK-4 School A Proactive and Preventative Approach to Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying

School Wide Expectations at WMS Woodland Middle School has clearly defined school wide

expectations

1. The expectations are designed to provide consistency for students

2. Expectations will be revisited consistently by staff. They are posted throughout the school and in classrooms as a reminder for everyone.

3. Students choose the level of success that they have at school. If a student chooses to follow expectations they will be successful.

Page 21: Woodland PreK-4 School A Proactive and Preventative Approach to Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying

WMS has a “ZERO” Tolerance PolicyAbsolutely zero tolerance for any Harassment, Intimidation

or Bullying at WMS

We are extremely clear with all students and families involved

Affirm the reporting student(s)

“Not even a hint or a look” of HIB allowed

It’s not tattling or “narking/snitching/etc.”… it’s doing what….. “Mr. Hall” or “Mrs. Campbell” says to do -- tell us or tell an adult and we take it seriously

Keep short accounts with families

Communication with teachers, PBIS Team, staff, students, and parents

Bottom line: We take bullying very seriously, but we believe overall we have a culture where this is not acceptable or tolerated and we have systems in place to support our students if they are feeling bullied or harassed.
