On September 6th we held our annual kick-off assembly for our Rachel’s Challenge program at Woodlands. Rachel Scott was the first person killed at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999. Parent Access to Student Grades Parent Access allows parents to see

their child’s grades online. Throughout the school year parents may access this web site to review their child’s progress.

Any parent needing information on Parent Access should email Mark_Doughty@ huronhs.com. Parents will be receiving a letter in the mail, which will provide information for parents to access their child’s grades online. Please look for this letter, as it will provide each parent with directions, a username, and password.

Early Dismissal Each year we dismiss school 65 minutes early on the day before Winter Break. Tuesday, December 20th, we will be dismissing the students at 2:40 PM. There will be bus transportation for those students that ride the bus home at this time. If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact the school office.

Fire Prevention This year’s Fire Prevention Day was held on Oct. 12th. On that day the 3rd and 4th grade students had a fire prevention assembly put on by the Huron Fire Department. The firemen stayed and ate lunch and went to recess with the 3rd and 4th grade students. The 3rd and 4th grade students also participated in a poster-coloring contest. Thank you to the Huron Fire Department for sponsoring this day and sharing their time with our students. The winners are listed below. 3rd Grade Poster Contest Winners Cadence Bodnar*, Addison Graham, Liz Heidl, Jazmine Johnson 4th Grade Poster Contest Winners Raigan Balmer, Claire Daugherty*, Samantha Lesnak, Maya Vance * Overall grade level winners, won lunch with the firemen at McDonalds.

Winter Band and Choir Concerts December always brings with it the

annual winter band and choir concerts. These evenings are always very well attended and provide enjoyment for all.

On Dec. 5th, the 6th grade band will perform along with the 7th grade band. On Dec. 7th, the 5th grade and 6th grade choirs will perform. Both concerts are scheduled to begin at 7:00 P.M. All performances will be held in the McCormick Junior High School auditorium. Show up early to get a good seat.

One Call Now The Huron City Schools again this year will be sending out notices to families of school closures and delays due to bad weather using the One Call Now system. There is a link on our web page that allows parents to add phone numbers and email addresses into the One Call Now system. To find the link select the Parent link at the top of the page.

Pint Size Heroes Program a Success On Wednesday, October 26, Woodlands along with the High School National Honor Society hosted a Pint Size Hero blood drive for the American Red Cross. Thank you to the parents and students for taking time out of their busy schedules and for their dedication to making a difference. The Red Cross indicated that we collected 27 pints of blood that will help save 81 lives. Again thanks to all that participated.

Parent Teacher Conferences Parent teacher conferences will be held on Thursday, November 10th, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM and Tuesday, November 15th, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. If you would like to schedule a conference with a teacher, please call the intermediate school office at 419-433-1234 ext. 3. For your convenience and to be guaranteed an appointment with a teacher, please call ahead and schedule a time.

Traffic Congestion Parents dropping off or picking up

intermediate school students should do so from Lake Erie Parkway. The driveway in front of the building is strictly limited to bus traffic before and after the school day. Please make sure students are exiting and entering your vehicle on the passenger side of the vehicle. Students should only be dropped off or picked up in the area outlined by the yellow painted curb. Several parents have been dropping students off outside of the drop off area near the traffic circle at the end of the parkway. This creates a safety issue. Please make sure you stop in the yellow area when dropping off or picking up your child. After dropping off or picking up your student please continue to follow Lake Erie Parkway back out to Cleveland Road.

Parents dropping their child off in the morning need to drop their child and then proceed to the cul-de-sac and exit using the parkway. Several families have been dropping in the front driveway area of the building and this is creating a safety issue for our busses that are coming in to unload. Please makes sure your child is dropped off on Lake Erie Parkway in the morning before school.

Parents coming into the building either to drop items off or to pick up their student for an early dismissal should park in the parking spaces in front of the building. Please do not park in the driveway in front of the building. We have asked our staff to park in the main parking lot to free up spaces for our visitors.

Students that are Absent Parents of absent students are reminded

they need to call the office each morning your child will be absent. Please call 419.433.1234 Ext. 3 from 7:00 AM – 9:30 AM.
