HERRINGBONETradition reinterpreted
The idea behind TRAPA’s herringboneparquet was to contemporarilyreinterpret floors for the 21st century, which once adorned palaces, castlesand manors.
The three herringbone designs Spigolo,Obliquo and Angolo are characterizedby larger formats, modified angles andcontemporary TRAPA colours.
The brushed grain bestows fascinatinglight- and shadow effects upon theplanks laid in herringbone pattern.
All TRAPA herringbone designs arecoordinated with TRAPA plank designsin colour, grain and constructionand invite designers to revive thesophisticated flooring culture of thepast in contemporary architecture.

WHAT’S SPECIALABOUT TRAPANATURAL WOOD FLOORSQuality takes timeBefore the actual processing, we first air-dry our wood for over a year and then gentlychamber-dry it. Thereafter, we use heat- andpressure treatment to caramelise the woodsugar (xylose). This complex procedure ensureshighest wood quality for decades and makesTRAPA floors solid, tempered and unrestrictedlyapplicable for housing.
Natural surfacesWe treat our wood from within the cell- andpore system, instead of conventionally treatingit on the surface. Through our gentle surfacefinish with lye and natural oil we preserve suchprecious, natural wood properties as warmth, comfort, diffusivity and slip resistance. Ourfloors are protected against wear and soilingand can be recommended for allergies.
Sustainable, local, long-lifeAll TRAPA timbers derive from sustainablymanaged, PEFC-certified forests in CentralEurope. We produce every component of ourproducts at our TRAPA workshops in Austriaand ensure environmentally sustainable, long-life, natural floors.

Slowly & gently dried
The common fast-drying processconducted by high temperature damagesthe quality of the wood. Therefore, we dryour wood as gently, slowly and naturallyas possible. First it dries for months atfresh air, afterwards it continues a gentlekiln drying process. Our wood only getsprocessed once internal tension has beenwidely reduced. This leads to our stableand strainless floors, which are suitable forunderfloor heating and controlled domesticventilation.
100 % in-house production
Since 1994, TRAPA is a family businessrooted in the Salzkammergut region ofAustria. It is particularly important to usthat our natural wood products are of highquality, natural, durable and local. As aconsequence we produce everything at ourown workshops. The wood fully originatesfrom sustainably managed Europeanforests. Our production process is as gentleand natural as possible. In this way naturalwood, traditional handcraft and moderntechnology build a meaningful connectionat TRAPA.

IN A NATURAL WAYSurface treatment at TRAPA
The surface treatment of our naturalwood floors represents the biggestchallenge for us. In order to preservethe good characteristics of our wood weconstantly research and develop in thefield of natural wood treatment and followa strict principle of not using lyes, waxes,UV oils and varnishes on our wood.
All our TRAPA colours result exclusivelyfrom natural and careful treatment.Through the interaction of woodingredients with heat, lye and naturaloils we reach natural wood floors, whichbecome even more beautiful as the yearsgo by.
As Andy Warhol once said:
“There is nothingdeeper than a surface.”
