Woodview School News 340 Alleghany Road, Grayslake, IL 60030 847-223-3668 “An Environment Where We Can All Grow Together”
10/7/10 Dear Parents and Guardians, We hope you enjoyed the time spent with your child's teacher during Conference Week. We find this time to be so valuable as a staff in setting goals and now working with them to make progress for us to report back to you in February at the next conference time. Thank you for taking the time to play such an important role in the education of your child! We appreciate all of the work and time that you put in at home to reinforce the importance of school. It was so nice to see all of you in the building and hope that you will continue to work with us! A special reminder to all volunteers coming into the classrooms that we have a system in place that will scan your driver's license. This is a security precaution that is being used in all District #46 schools as a way to further protect our children. Once you have been scanned in we will print you a sticker and then you can proceed down to the classroom to volunteer! We continue to receive many positive comments and hope you all understand the need for this at Woodview School. Attached in this newsletter you will find the voicemail extensions for all staff members. When you would like to contact your child's teacher, please dial 847-223-3540 and then the teacher's 4-digit extension number. If there is an urgent message you may still call the main office line at 847-223-3668. Email is also a great way to get in touch with a staff member. All staff will respond within 24 hours of receiving a message. The school year is moving along quickly with Halloween being only three weeks away. As we get closer to this holiday and you and your child begin preparing a costume, please adhere to the following conditions set forth by the District #46 guidelines:
ο Keep in mind that some families are deeply offended by the representation of witches, ghosts, vampires, devils, werewolves, and goblins.
ο Weapons and other suggestions of overt violence, including fake blood, are not allowed! (NO "SCREAM" MASKS WILL BE ALLOWED)
ο District #46 staff reserves the right to remove disruptive costumes or portions thereof. You will receive more detailed information from your child's classroom teacher regarding their Halloween party in the next few weeks as well as information on the school-wide parade
Sincerely, Jeff Knapp Principal

We recently had our first Market Day sale. Our total sales for September were over $14,000! This means our district profit was around $2800, which means that the PTO’s at each of our schools (PV, MV, WV, Park, and Avon) will receive over $500 this month. A change from past years...Market Day has increased our profit potential to 20% of total sales versus 10% (with total sales of $5500). So please keep ordering from Market Day, and if you haven’t ordered yet, please try this monthly fundraiser. Our students benefit greatly from everyone’s participation. The next sale is October 15th. Please watch for the October flyer to come home with your child, or you can check out the Market Day website at www.marketday.com. For more information please feel free to call Stephanie Arnopolin at 847-543-8818. Thanks All! Stephanie Arnopolin Market Day Parent Chair
Clip & save Tyson Project A+ labels.
Turn in the labels to school. Your
school redeems them for cash. Each
label is worth $.26.
Here is another way to earn money for
Woodview. Simply clip the Box Tops
from your favorite General Mills
products and send them to school with
your child!
Chef Tony says, “Back to
School means back to delicious
meals and snacks from Market
Day. Keep an eye out for our
first order form coming home
soon.”
Did you know that Woodview
collects Campbell’s soup labels? The
labels are worth points and must have
the UPC code in order to be used. The
points can be redeemed for books, gym
equipment, and other items for our
school. Each teacher has a box in the
classroom to collect labels and box tops!

NEW TRIMESTERS INFORMATION
As many of you are already aware, we will be transitioning to trimester grading periods for the 2010-2011 school year. There are many reasons for this change, but the ultimate goal is to provide better feedback to parents. The
combination of lengthening our grading periods and benchmark assessing all students three times a year will allow us to provide parents with a more accurate portrayal of their child's growth and performance.
Trimester dates for 2010:
August 25, 2010 to November 12, 2010
November 15, 2010 to March 4, 2011
March 7, 2011 to June 8, 2011
THANK YOU !THANK YOU !THANK YOU !THANK YOU !
A BIG thank you goes out to all of the parents and students who donated
supplies to the art room.
