A2 Media Studies Advanced Portfolio Production Diary Megan Summers PROGRESS UPDATE PLAN FOR NEXT MONTH / WEEK (Including Possible Contingency Plans If Problems Anticipated) September 2012 (Detailed Monthly Summary) Pre-Production: I created my blog and I started to think about what type of newspaper I want to create for my final piece, I decided to do a broadsheet newspaper but that my research would still focus around both tabloid and broadsheet. I have gathered images of various newspaper billboard advertisements and have begun to analyse the various techniques and features of billboards when they advertise newspapers. Next month, I will finish my newspaper billboard analysis and also begin the analysis of radio advertisements for my second ancillary task. I will use you tube to find the radio advertisements as otherwise I believe they may be difficult to find. September 2012(Detailed Monthly Summary)

Pre-Production: I created my blog and I started to think about what type of newspaper I want to create for my final piece, I decided to do a broadsheet newspaper but that my research would still focus around both tabloid and broadsheet. I have gathered images of various newspaper billboard advertisements and have begun to analyse the various techniques and features of billboards when they advertise newspapers.

Next month, I will finish my newspaper billboard analysis and also begin the analysis of radio advertisements for my second ancillary task. I will use you tube to find the radio advertisements as otherwise I believe they may be difficult to find.

October 2012(Detailed Monthly Summary)

Pre-Production: I finished my analysis of newspaper billboards and used you tube to find various examples of radio advertisements. I put the links for these onto a word document and then underneath the links I wrote a bullet point paragraph about the similarities all the radio adverts have and also the differences depending on their target audience. This month I also started planning what my own billboard newspaper advert will look like, I then created this in Photoshop.

November 2012(Detailed Monthly Summary)

Pre-Production: I wrote my radio advert script and gathered images of various front pages from local newspapers since a local newspaper is one that I will be creating for my final piece. Then I analysed these newspaper front pages – picking out key conventions that are used on all front pages and also key things that are more specific to broadsheet newspapers. I also made a powerpoint of distinctive differences between tabloid and broadsheet newspapers.

Next month, I will start to plan the details of my final newspaper piece by trying to think of names and coming up with plans of what my layout will look like, there may be an issue when trying to make the aspects of my newspaper original(such as not choosing a name of a newspaper that already exists). I will try to overcome this problem by researching the names of newspapers and making sure I don’t choose one too similar to another.

December 2012(Detailed Monthly Summary)

Pre-Production: I created a mock layout plan for my front page which follows the conventions of usual front page newspapers but also diverts from stereotypical broadsheet newspapers. I have also written an essay commenting on how I have used audience theory research while directing my target audience.

Over the holiday I plan to research different newspaper stories and headlines to help with deciding type of story that I will create. I will also note the way they word headlines and the way the articles are told. I will also go out and plan the type of scene/area I will be taking the photographs that will go on my front page.

Mon W/B 07/01/13(Detailed Weekly Summary)

Pre Production: I began putting all the ideas I have for my newspaper down onto a mind map. So far I have noted down types of stories and the way I would want the stories to be written on this map. Over the holidays, I looked at the ideas I have for articles I could write and took images based around these ideas. I also did research into the way most articles are written so I could be sure to emulate this in my own articles.

Mon W/B 14/01/13(Detailed Weekly Summary)

Pre Production: I completed the mind map which details all the ideas I could possibly include while making my magazine. I also made a market research questionnaire which I gave out to ten people to fill in.

Next week, I will write all the ideas from my mind map into a report. I will also write a market research report which will include pie charts of the responses I received from my questionnaires.

Mon W/B 21/01/13(Detailed Weekly Summary)

Pre Production: I have written my ideas from my mind map up into a report; I have made it more clear what the ideas mean and how they will be presented within my newspaper. I have also begun to write my market research report based on the results from the questionnaires I handed out last week.

Next week I aim to finish my market research report and to continue making the layout plans for both my front page and my second page.

Mon W/B 28/01/13(Detailed Weekly Summary)

Pre Production: I have finished my idea generation report which collates all the information that I received by doing my market research. I also continued creating the front and second page mock layouts, I have completed three front page plans and so far one of my second page layout plans.

Next week I aim to finish the last of my layout plans for my second page . I will then proceed to write the newspaper articles which I will include in my final newspaper. While writing these I anticipate that I will have problems with making them short enough to fit a few onto the same page but also making sure they are detailed.

Mon W/B 04/02/13(Detailed Weekly Summary)

Production: I finished the last of the layout plans and have put them all onto my blog. I began to and finished writing the articles which I will include in my newspaper, I have two main, longer articles and a few smaller ones to include on the second page of my newspaper.

Next week I will begin to manipulate the images I have taken on Photoshop, I will also begin to actually create my newspaper.

Mon W/B 11/02/13(Detailed Weekly Summary)

Production: I manipulated my images in Photoshop to make sure they fit the articles I have written more appropriately.I decided to create my second page before my front page so that I could get a feel for the colour scheme and general layout before I

began my first page. The first thing I did was create the banner at the top of the page - this was an idea I imitated from various second pages of real newspapers. I then proceeded to create the holiday advertisement in the top right hand corner of the page.

Mon W/B 18/02/13(Detailed Weekly Summary)

Production: This week I have placed two of my articles onto the second page, I did anticipate a problem in the length of the articles and I overcame it easily by cutting out the less important pieces of information. I also had a problem at first with lining all the text up correctly, I played around with the aligning tools on Photoshop before I found the correct one.

Next week I hope to finish my second page by putting on my third story.

Mon W/B 25/02/13(Detailed Weekly Summary)

Production: I put my third story onto my second page. When I looked over the layout of the page I decided it looked too squashed together so I reduced the size of the text and resized the images. I also linked everything on the page together on Photoshop and moved it all upwards slightly.

Next week I will begin my front page. Now that I know how difficult it is to get a realistic looking layout I am anticipating that my front page will need a lot of work to look authentic.

Mon W/B 04/03/13(Detailed Weekly Summary)

Production: This week I continued editing the second page of my newspaper, I moved some of the images and text around to a slightly different layout which makes the page look more realistic as a newspaper. I began with the front page of my newspaper, I focused mainly on the masthead and the top of the page which includes information such as date and price , I tried to make it look as conventional as possible.

Next week I shall continue with my front page, I hope to have the text of my article on the page.

Mon W/B 11/03/13(Detailed Weekly Summary)

Production: I have finished the top of my page and have included a banner as a puff to another story. I then continued to copy the text of my article onto the page.

Next week I hope to find a suitable layout for my text which gives enough room for a headline and image to be placed above. I want to finish my front page so that I can go on to write my evaluation.

Mon W/B 18/03/13(Detailed Weekly Summary)

Production: This week I added my image above the text of the image, I also found a layout which allows all the text of my article to be in aligned columns. I began to create the advertisement on the side of the page and got the idea for this newspaper incentive from other newspapers I analysed during my market research.

Next week I hope to finish my front page and begin to write my evaluation.

Mon W/B 01/04/13(Detailed Weekly Summary)

Production: This week I finished my front page, I completed the advertisement incentive down the side of the page and I added the headline to the page. This week I also recorded the vocals for my radio advertisement which I wrote earlier, using a voice recorder,

Next week I shall finish the editing of my radio advertisement and then write my evaluation. I am concerned that I will not be able to find a suitable backing track for my radio advertisement, in which case I will just have to try to make it as authentic as possible.

Mon W/B 08/04/13(Detailed Weekly Summary)

Production: This week I finished the editing of my radio advertisement.I then proceeded to put my construction and final newspaper onto my blog along with my completed radio advert.

Over the weekend I will write my evaluation focusing on all the four questions so that next week during lesson time I can work on presenting my evaluation in various ways.

Post Production: Over the weekend I finished the writing of my evaluation and this week I have have created a Prezi powerpoint for two of my evaluation questions, I have also created a regular office powerpoint for the third question.

Over the weekend I will record a voice recording of a fourth question.
