Ribbon

The Ribbon is made up of three components

– Tabs

– Groups

– Commands

1. Ribbon

The Ribbon is an interface where a set of toolbars are placed

on tabs in a tab bar.

It contains the set of commands for working in a document

Home, Insert, Page Layout are example of ribbon tabs.

Tabs appear across the top of the Ribbon.

Each tab opens an ―activity area‖.

Each Tab on the ribbon is made up of groups.

Groups are a collection of similar commands.

The Group names appear below the group on the

bottom of the Ribbon.

Clipboard, Font and Paragraph are examples of groups on the Home tab.

Each group contains Commands.

A command consists of choices and may be a button, a

box, or a menu where information is entered.

Launcher

The Dialog Box Launcher is in the lower-right

corner of a group. When clicked a dialog box opens

with more commands and details from which to choose.

6. File Tab

The File Tab that takes you to the Backstage view.

Where you manage your documents and related

data about them — create, open, save, print, send

documents, etc.

7. Backstage

View

The Backstage View contains the set of commands you

use to do things to a document, such as creating new

documents, saving and opening documents, printing and

sharing documents, and so on.

Quick Access Toolbar

Access

Toolbar

The Quick Access Toolbar is the small area just above the

File tab. It provides access to the most frequently used

commands such as Save, Undo, and Repeat.

This toolbar can be customized and is always available no

matter which tab you are on.

9. Title Bar

The Title Bar is the horizontal bar that contains the name of the window. It tells you the name of the open file or window.

10. Minimize (-)

The little “_” is the Minimize Button. It reduces the current window to a Taskbar button.

11. Maximize ( ) ( )

The “Box” is the Maximize Button. It maximizes the program, making it full screen.

12. Close (X)

The “X” is the Close Button. It closes the window.

Mini Toolbar

13. Mini toolbar

The Mini Toolbar appears in a faded fashion

when you select your text by dragging with your

mouse and then point at the selection. If you use

the mouse to point to the Mini Toolbar it will

become solid and you can click a formatting

option.

14. Cursor The Cursor is the blinking character that indicates the

Insertion Point . It can also be used to select text.

15. Pointer The Pointer is the onscreen arrow or other shape that

moves when you move your mouse or other pointing

device

The Work Area is the blank space within the program

where you enter information.

17. Scroll

Bars

Scroll Bars are vertical and horizontal bars located on the

sides and bottom of display area that allow you to move to a

specific location in the work area.

18. Status

Bar

The Status Bar is the horizontal bar a the bottom of the window

that displays information about the status of the document such

as the number of pages and words in the document.
