What is a word? What do you know when you know a word?

In the beginning was the word and the word was God.

We all use words. We use them so frequently that were no longer conscious of them, of their meaning. We became masters of the words, without really figure out their true power. And without even realize an essential thing: the word is a product of our thoughts, of our inside experience, of our subjective interior universe.

It is obvious that having the capacity to speak, to express, we have the privilege to detach ourselves from the others inhabitants of the Earth. It is more than clear that, used with its positive value, the word become something like the fifth element, necessary for human development.

As Arghezi said in his poetryTestament the word is omnipotent, is the master of the universe. The word is divine, its a gift from God:in the beginning was the word and we have the duty to keep it and to make the most of it.

The words give life; they are just like small waves of energy. The word is the thought and also the sentiment, is the ideal of our soul. But in the big mystery of life, the word becomes the sublime because the word is the sacred from the profane. But what do we know when we know a word? We know its meaning, its value. Actually, the meaning of the things is given by the words which organize and classifies them in our mind. When we learn a new quality of a thing we give it a name, if it didnt already have one, and we learn that quality through the medium of another person which informs us about the thing, through that name of it.

The meaning is an acceptance ( of a word, of an expression ) , a content, a way that speakers of a language can understand what it is told to them and so then can make links with the words, the objects described. The meaning has a very important role in humans life that is because it makes us understand the differences between words, what means one and what means the other one. Through words, the human being is able to make two mental and essential operations for the human intelligence and for its own human condition: segmentation and classification. Since we learn to attach meanings to words as we go through life and these meanings will probably change as a result of our experiences of using them, there will always be, at least slight, differences in the meanings people have for the same word. We know when two words are equivalent (synonyms) or when they are antagonistic (antonyms). We know when a sentence has sense or not, we are able to make difference between true and false, bad and good.

And that is why the human being, with the help of language, of its own words, is the master of the world in which he lives, that is he understands it and he sees its meaning.
