Dashboard TheWordPressDashboardisyourmaincontrolpanel.IntheheaderbaratthetopofyourDashboard,WordPressdisplaysthenameofyoursite(“StudentBlogTemplate”inthefigurebelow).Clickingthisnameisonewaytoopenyourhomepage.ToreturntoyourDashboardfromyourhomepage,hoveroverthesitenameandclickDashboardonthedrop-downmenu.

DashboardMenuOptionsOntheleftsideofyourDashboard,WPdisplaysthemenusyouwillusetomanageyoursiteanddevelopyourpages.Hoveringovereachofthemainmenuitemsdisplaysasubmenuwithrelatedoptions.Clickingamenuitemdisplayedtherelatedtoolsandcontrolsinthelargerareatotherightofthemenus.Themainmenuoptionsare:

Settings Thissectioncontainsmostoftheconfigurationtoolsforyoursite.Here,youcanconfigureyoursitenameandtagline,availablefonts,sitevisibilityandmuchmore.Inmostcases,onceyoursiteissetup,thereislittleneedtochangethesettingsinthissection.

Subscriptions Ifyouallowvisitorstosubscribetoyoursite,thisiswhereyoucanmanagetheiraccess.

Collapsemenu AtthebottomofthemenuyouwillseealinkcalledCollapsemenu.Clickingthiswillhidethemenuandsimplydisplaytheiriconsinstead.Clickthesmallarrowiconagaintoexpandthemenu.

Saving and Publishing Content Aftermakingchangestoapage,youmustsaveandpublishthepagetomakeitvisibletotheworld.1. TosavefromtheEditPage,clicktheUpdate

• Columns–Specifiesthenumberofcolumnstousewhendisplayingyourthumbnailimages.Ultimately,thiswillbedependonyourThemeandhowwideyourpageis.Ifyoufindthegalleryisn’tdisplayingproperlyafterchangingthisnumber,youmayneedtochangeittoanothernumber.

• RandomOrder–Clickthischeckboxtodisplayyourimagesinrandomorder.• Size–Specifiesthesizeoftheimagetouseinyourgallery.

5. MakesuretocreateAltTextforeachimage.ClickonathumbnailandaddadescriptionintheAlt

Textfieldontherightsideofthedialog.Thisisrequiredforaccessibilitypurposes.WerecommendthatyourAltTextbeginwith“photoof”or“imageof”asscreenreadersdonotnecessarilyidentifythetypeofobjecttheyencounter.

6. ClicktheUpdateGallerybuttoninthelowerrightcornerofthedialog.7. ClicktheUpdatebuttonontherightsideofthescreentoupdatethewebsite.8. ClickViewPageandclickonanimage.

Widgets Widgetsareindependentcontentelementsthatcanbeplacedinleft/rightsidebarsorotherareasallowedbyyourselectedtheme.Therearemanywidgetsavailable,butthedefaultstudentthemeincludestwo:SubscribebyEmailandSearch.TobrowseotherwidgetsfromyourDashboard,hoveroverPlugins,thenclickWidgetsontheflyoutmenu.
