Process for WE
• Based on assessments the IEP team should determine a student’s need for WE.– Lack of past work related experiences– A need to explore occupations of interest– A need for improving job related skills

• Amend the IEP or schedule a staffing to involve all team members and add the change of program using the Written Prior Notice form.
• Other considerations:– 11th grade year to setup 12th grade placement – Good attendance in the classroom– Appropriate behaviors in the classroom

• When the need is confirmed, a goal should be written (best practice) or the need should be documented on page ”F”

Process for WE (continued)
• The student should complete the WE application to determine the job sites of interest.
• A Driver’s Permission form must be completed if the student will be allowed to drive to and from the job site. The student driver must not be allowed to transport other students during this time unless parent approval for both students to do so.

• Before a student is placed at a job site, a Work Agreement must be completed and signed by all parties involved.– Non-Paid Work Agreement– Paid Work Agreement

• A signed copy of the Work Agreement must be found at the job site.
• Refer to the “Legal Aspects of Work-Place Learning” :– Child Labor Laws– Employer-Employee Relationship For Persons
with Disabilities (attention to hours)– Other areas that pertain

• Job Site Attendance Form (Student completes at the site)
• Site Visit Log (for teacher use of student monitoring)
• Classroom to Workplace Readiness Rating Scale (tool to assess student readiness for placement in a community setting)
• Workplace Readiness Rating Scale (tool for work site evaluations)
