WORK EXPERIENCE 2012
o Work Experience is an integral part of the Year 10 curriculum
o It is intended to introduce all Year 10 students to an understanding of the workplace
o A chance to explore career options

What you need to know!
o Work Experience is a one-week experience at the end of Term Two
o Dates are Monday 25th June to Friday 29th June.
o You will be provided with instruction in Occupational Health & Safety prior to your work experience
What you need to do!
o Attend presentation on 16th March
o Receive your Work Experience Arrangement Form from your Homeroom Teacher
o Attend individual appointment with careers staff
o Approach possible employers and ask if they will employ you for one week (25th June – 29th June 2012) by phone or email – look on SIMON for tips and templates in helping with this.

Complete the Work Experience Arrangement Form, including all the necessary signatures (your employer, yourself and your parents)
Return the original Arrangement Form to your
Homeroom Teacher by 17th April (1st day back Term 2)

o Prepare yourself by finding out as much as you can about the work you will undertake
o Do this by contacting the employer 2 weeks before work experience to find out:o Dress codeo Lunch requirementso Hours of worko Safety requirements
During and after Work Experienceo Keep notes on your observations and experiences
– through your Work Experience Journal.
o Understand that your employer will be asked to evaluate your work
o A Thomas Carr teacher will visit you and your employer
o Your participation will be noted in your Homeroom Teacher’s Report
