Program Details

» Gain work experiences to explore career options and develop professional skills

» Three (12-16 week) work terms are required to complete your Co-op designation, a fourth term is optional

» Work terms are full-time, paid, relevant positions that provide supervision and feedback

» Placements are not guaranteed but Co-op Coordinators assist you throughout the process

» On a work term you are registered into a Co-op course, assessed one course fee, and have full-time student status with the university

» Work terms can alternate or be consecutive but at least one must be in the fall or winter semester and you must end your studies on a full-time academic term

» Work terms require completion of learning goals, a reflective report and participation in a site visit with your supervisor and Co-op Coordinator

» Learn to write effective, targeted cover letters and resumes

» Gain job search and networking experience

» Participate in interview preparation and practice

» Develop professional skills and learn how to be successful in the workplace

» Receive support and assistance from the Co-op team before, during and in between work terms

Process

» Complete the online application form in CareerLink:careerlink.ucalgary.ca

» Include your intended work/study sequence, a resumeand letter indicating your interest in the program

» Once accepted you will go through extensive pre-employment training – in person and online through D2L

» A $50.00, non-refundable administration fee is assessed

» You will have access to the restricted Arts Co-op JobBoard in CareerLink

» Your Co-op Coordinator will assist you through the jobapplication, interview and transition to work process

» Securing a work term is a competitive process and successrequires effort but the Co-op team is here to help
