housing

This housing project aims to provide dwellings for single parent and their children, by having a gradient of network and different levels of social hubs, creating a community with healthy social lives that helps with the growth of the young generation.

To increase interaction within the neighborhood, a hexagonal patternn is realized by having three units in a single cluster, maximizing the chance of encounter of residents from different dwelling units. In a larger scale, the building provides three villages with different circulation patternns to create different possibilities for encounters.

A hierarchy of dwelling space and public space is formed due to the change of rules of aggregation.

bank pavilionNoho, New York, NYgsapp feb.-may.2012 Cristina Goberna studio

The ambition of this project is to showcase the charac-teristics of different banks to the public by setting up an exposition of banks, enabling parallel comparisons, eras-ing completely the advertisements, flipping the position of customers from passive followers to active decision makers.

Architecturally, banks would have their own separate pavilions that individually designed by four architects. Hanging on a permanent frame structure, pavilions are temporary and structurally independent to enable annual changes in expositions. Besides, there would be also permanent traditional programs as service areas, offices, cafe and vaults, stacking one on top of each other in the same frame. An open plaza underground is to provide public spaces for the neighborhood.

wind prediction shelter

gsapp sep.-oct.2012 rethinking bim Mark Greenautodesk revitwith Margaux Young, Chen Jin

Inspired by wind instruments, this project aims to design a bike shelter that can alert bike riders to impending storms.

The shelter is composed of two smooth surfaces. Metal tubes are constructed similarly to a recorder. They extend outwards from the shelter perpendicular to the surface. The tubes vary in length depending on their placement on the structure. Longer tubes produce deeper tones, while shorter tubes produce higher tones. The gradient patternn of the tubes on the structures surface generate different tones as the wind blows from different directions. Abrupt shifts in wind direction, which often denotes changes in weather patternns, will cause changes in the tone produced by the structure, alerting potential storms.

exposed workshop

The design intention is to create a columnless interior space that accomodates artisan workshops and offices, enhancing cross collaboration, by pulling out structures outside the building.

parametric bag

gsapp nov.-dec.2012 parametric realization Brigette Borders and Mark Bearakgrasshopper, lasercutwith Mengxing Wang, Chenyu Peng

Inspired by origami accessories, the initial concept is to design bags that can be both enclosed and unfolded. Two layers of skin are applied: plexi panels adhere on the felt fabric. The pattern of plexi panels are designed parametricly. Bigger panels locate in the center, giving the bag certain degree of rigidity, while smaller panels forms the outer rings to have a smoothier transition at the folds.

new york city theaterMidtown, New York, NYpolito april.-june.2011 ArchMedium Competitionwith Davide Scialo’

This project is a proposal for a new theater district in midtown Manhattan, New York. The site used to be a railway station that is currently abbandoned, because of which the directionality is strongly influenced, with one side facing Hudson River, and the other connecting to Penn Station.

Having Broadway eight streets away from the site, this new theater district aims at enhancing the social interaction between theaters with the new generation of artists, at the same time, reinventing a new kind of spatial occupation in the urban scale.

vienna music hall

Viennapolito feb.-april.2011 ArchMedium Competitionwith Davide Scialo’

This project is a proposal for a new music school at StadPark, Vienna. As a historical city as Vienna is, art has been playing important role in both cultural and social aspect. Music, in particular, made Vienna once the art capital of Western World. However, confronting the growth

and development of other cities in the world, a regression of its leading role in art and music is strongly desired. The design of this music school based on two elements, symbolizing the past and the future respectly: the auditorium and exhibition space for celebrating the great

works of past time, and the music school that gives birth to new generations of artists. By connecting the two elements, the flow between the past artistic legacy and the future achievement is made possible.

beijing art center

Beijingburo ole scheeren may.-aug.2012 intern architect (interior design)

This project is a multi-used art center locating at the center of beijing, next to the forbidden city. Major programs are auction halls that are flexible to be changed into exhibition areas, and a starred hotel on upper levels. The concept for interior design is to create flexible spaces for temporary changes. Two major programs, having different constomers, have distinctive spatial experience as well as circulation paths.During the three months, I mainly worked on the interior design, produce drawings and SD submission presentation.
