PROSES KERJA: TAKING BLOOD CULTURE

Label the Blood Culture bottle and fill up the lab form including time the specimen is takenPrepare trolley and Blood C&S set

Disinfect the skin area 3 times with Hibitane 2% ( 1:50) in 70% Alcohol. Do not palpate the vein after the skin is disinfected. Leave it to dry (about 15 seconds to 1minute).Apply tourniquet

Drape the area with a sterile towel.

Perform the venipuncture using a minimum of 10 ml syringe. Change injection needle if re-venipuncture required.Change injection needle if re-venipuncture required.

Invert the Blood Culture bottle gently 5 to 10 times to prevent clotting
