Your Task:Leicester City were founded in 1884 and now boast a very rich history. Read about each key location that was important to Leicester City’s first locations and meetings as a team and answer the questions: try testing your new found knowledge on a parent!

Garden Shed. It’s estimated that in 1884, Leicester Fosse were founded in a garden shed just off the old Roman Fosse Road.

First non-Leicester player scouted at Spinney Hills. In the 1886/87 season, the first ‘outsider’ joined the Club. His name was Sam Sudbury, from Lincoln, and it’s believed he was scouted by our co-founder Frank Gardner, who spotted him kicking a ball about at Spinney Hills. He was the first player we had outside of Leicester!

First match, now Westleigh Avenue.Leicester Fosse’s first ever match was played on a private field off the Fosse Road (less than a mile away from the garden shed they formed in!). They won 5-0 against Syston Fosse on 1 November 1884. It’s now a street with houses, called Westleigh Avenue.

First regular home ground was Victoria Park.Between the years of 1884-1887, Leicester’s first regular home ground was Victoria Park. It’s still there today! By 1887, Leicester Fosse had expanded to 40 members and two teams.

Grace Road used to play matches. In 1891, Leicester City were without a home ground once more. They had to temporarily play on the county cricket ground, Aylestone Park. It’s now known as Grace Road and is home to Leicestershire County Cricket Club!

Filbert Street developed. Finally, in October 1891, Leicester City settled in to what would be their home ground for over 100 years. They moved to the Walnut Street Ground, which later changed its name to Filbert Street. We stayed here until 2002.
