Historically, the Labour Day Parade was not only a show of solidarity, it was a day of protest.Workers took the opportunity to bring their issues to the national stage. During the 50s and60s, the struggle was for equality, the right to vote and majority rule. In the 70s the struggleshifted from social justice and human rights to national independence. Today, the struggle isfor economic freedom and a more equitable distribution of this nations resources.

    Hello Everyone,

success. Please find below a photo slide show which highlights some of the activities of Labour Day 2012.

Also included in the photo slide show are pictures from a service held at Bahamas Faith Ministry on Sun-

day, May 27th when four members of the legal profession were honored. Also added to the slide show are

photos from The Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations' Celebration of 60 Years which took placeon Sunday, May 27th as well. Sir Randol was one of the founding fathers of this organization.

Lastly, I would like to draw your attention to the website www.sirrandolfawkes.com The family with as-

sistance from others is making an effort to have important writings and documents from Sir Randol's files

digitized. As this takes place, we will be uploading the information onto the website. The first book that

Sir Randol wrote "You Should Know Your Government" is now on the website and the 5th Edition of

"The Faith That Moved the Mountain" will be placed on the website in installments. Currently the intro-

duction to the new version of "The Faith" is now on the website.

Our congratulations to Mr. Franklin Carter for all that he has done for the trade union movement. On an-

other note Mr. Carter's grandmother, Mrs . Madeline McKinney Carter and Sir Randol's mother, Mrs. Mil-dred McKinney Fawkes were two sisters. How about that!

    With best wishes,

    The Fawkes Family.

    Dear Friends,

We are very happy to have completed another addition of the newsletter for

the National Congress of Trade Unions Bahamas and we would like to thank

each and everyone one of you who took the time to make a contribution.

The name of the newsletter is The Workers Voice which was a name that Sir

Randol Fawkes gave to the Bahamas Federation of Labor's newspaper in

1959. This current newsletter gives to you, the worker, a voicea means to

communicate with your fellow brothers and sisters in the union. Additionally,

through the Workers Voice, you now have the opportunity of profiling your

union and the work that you are doing.

It is our aim to introduce to you all of the affiliate unions attached to the

NCTU. In each edition, we also will bring you content that is historical in na-

ture. History informs us of the struggles that our forbears underwent and the

debt of appreciation that we owe them for the sacrifices made. The newsletter

will also enable us to document the history that is being made to day so that

future generations will be inspired by our efforts .

Finally would you like to be apart of this communications venture? Do you

have a story to tell, an opinion to share? Do you have English, photography, graphic arts design skills? If your answer is Yes then we would appreciate

    hearing from you.

    With thanks
