In his continuing effort to focus state programs and resources on job creation, Governor Robert Bentley has announced that the Alabama Community College System’s Office of Workforce Devel-opment will now carry the designation of the Governor’s Office of Workforce Development. Gover-nor Bentley’s declaration recognizes the importance of workforce training and the positive work being performed through the Alabama Workforce Training Council. The Governor’s Office of Work-force Development will continue to prioritize workforce training needs through ten locally driven workforce councils. Training efforts within the ten regional councils connect with the state’s Eco-nomic Development Alliance Plan through a comprehensive Alabama Workforce Training System.

The training needs for business and industry in Alabama are vast. The Governor’s Office of Work-force Development will be a primary conduit for meeting local training needs and development of the pipeline of workers through the Alabama Community College System. Over the past 4 years, over 400 local workforce development projects have been awarded in the amount of nearly $60 million, touching the lives of more than 200,000 by meeting the training needs of indus-try and individuals in communities all over the state of Alabama. Continued work to prepare and retrain workers will be the commitment of the Governor’s Office of Workforce Development.
