Thoughts and ideas from our discussion

• Three different projects by government funded institutions working in the field of film education (Denmark, Sweden, Finland)

Thoughts and ideas from our discussion

• Film education works in three levels: experience, understanding, creating.

• When those who are working in with children are introduced and given the tools, they start to see many different possibilities how to implement film education in their work.

• Sometimes the people working with children are more of a challenge than the children (fear of film / media / technical devices).

Thoughts and ideas from our discussion

• The children who might find traditional teaching methods difficult tend to enjoy viewing a film, discussing about the film, making a film. This offers an experience of success to those who might not get in the traditional setting.

• Watching a film can strengthen children’s linguistic skills.

• Sometimes the group cohesion becomes better through a viewing experience

• Seminars and support for those working with children are needed (practical advice too).
