Pressure cookers fall within the scope of the Pressure Equipment Directive 97/23/EC Section 1.2, Article 3
Conformity Assessment procedure: Equivalent to at least one of the category III or IV modules

What triggered the need for concerted action ?What triggered the need for concerted action ?•Member state competent authorities detected on the market a number of non-conforming pressure cookers, invoking the relevant safeguard clause.
•Pressure cookers are a popular cooking item present in almost every household.
•Non-conforming pressure cookers put in jeopardy the safety and health of the users (general public).
• Ascertain the level of conformity of pressure cookers that are available at the European markets against the ESHRs of PED.
• Inform the stakeholders (manufacturers, authorised representatives, distributors, importers, etc) about the requirements of the PED.
• Raise the awareness of the general public, particularly the consumers.
• Accordingly, E.U. may adapt its policy for further action and other initiatives.

The Department of Labour Inspection, being the competent authority for PED in Cyprus, takes part in the concerted action and conducted a survey throughout Cyprus covering all urban areas.
Labour Inspection Officers from the Head Office and Labour Inspectors from the 4 District Offices took part in the survey.
