Electrical Dangers
•SHOCK!!!!–Faulty cords–Spills–Disassembling equipment–Inserting items into the computer or outlet
•ACCIDENTS!!!!–Tripping over stretched cords–Letting loose clothing or jewelry dangle in machinery
•FIRE!!!!–Frayed cords–Overloaded extension cords–Blocking air vents

Safety RulesFollow the following rules to
insure you health!• Store sharp items (scissors)
point down or flat – away from the desk’s edge
• Use a staple remover• Do NOT examine a jammed
stapler near your eyes or test it over your finger
• Store tacks in a container

Safety Rules, continued• Drawers:
– Look before you leap!– Use the handle– Do not leave open– Do not have all the top drawers
open as the cabinet will tip over
• Chairs:– Be careful with chairs that roll
– Do not tip over!– Use static control mats

jewelry to dangle in printers or shredders
• Keep fingers away from the blade on cutting boards – do not leave the blade up!
• Avoid sharp corners on furniture
• Be very careful when using step ladders or ladders

Emergency ProceduresYou should know:• The location of emergency

Working Alone After Hours
• Always work near a phone and keep emergency telephone numbers nearby.
• Lock all doors to your work area. Do not open the door to anyone you are not expecting or cannot identify.
• Become acquainted with maintenance staff and learn when to expect them.
• Do not use an elevator if anyone suspicious is in it. Stand next to the control buttons.
• Park near the building entrance and near a light.
• Check the parking lot visually before leaving the security of the building.
• Keep car keys and cell phonein hand ready to use.

• Take care of any disks or flash drives you may have – do not leave them in the open. NO magnets
