SPECIAL CURRICULUM APPLICATIONS: Native Peoples' heritage and culture, story-telling,mask-making, role-playing, dance, movement, social studies, language arts

FACETS, A JOURNEY OF REFLECTIONS: It is often said that planning shows forjunior high schools is problematic because of their varying levels of sophistication, their perceived needs, peer group pressure and the like. However, Sun.Ergos has puta show together that is based directly on curricula that witness the many facets ofthe teen-age experience. Indian legends reach out to the imaginations of Grade 7s;the physical expression and athleticism of dance challenges Grade 8s; emotionalexcerpts from Shakespeare's MACBETH provide Grade 9s with a living look at thisclassic; and tales from Southeast Asia evoke other cultures that make up themulticultural heritage of North America. FACETS is a suite of reflections that takesteenagers on a journey into their own consciousness and growing awareness of theworld around them and, perhaps, introduce them to ones about which surprisethem.

PERFORMED IN THREE-QUARTER THRUST STAGING

"Sun.Ergos has built up in recent years an established international reputation for its highlyinnovative, tightly-disciplined, and singularly distinctive repertoire of dance and dramaticcreations."THE STAGE AND TELEVISION TODAY, London, England

TITLE OF SHOW(S): FACETS, A JOURNEY OF REFLECTIONSLENGTH OF SHOW(S): 50-minutes, plus 10-minutes for Question PeriodTECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS: [see enclosed tech sheet]

THEME [describe in one sentence]: A multicultural journey through mental, physical and emotional theatreand dance pieces aimed at the junior high school audience.

CONTENT [brief description of pieces in show]: Athletic dance pieces, Native legends, indigenous pieces fromIndonesia and Southeast Asia, emotional excerpts from Shakespeare.

GOAL [what is the purpose of this show]: To create a suite of reflections of common humanity that takesteenagers on a journey into their own consciousness and growing awareness of the world around them, and, perhaps, introduce them to ones which surprise them.

POINT OF VIEW OF ARTISTS [brief description]: Both Bob and Dana have taken delight in exposing theirown and others foibles through their art forms for years. FACETS gives them an opportunity to expose youngpeople to the idea that humanity has been around a lot longer than they have, that they may be unique invidi-viduals, but their experiences are by no means solely unique to their generation.

CLASSIFICATION [i.e.: ADULT, FESTIVAL, FAMILY, YOUNG AUDIENCE]: Festival and School audiences.

PRESENTATION [skills used to present show]: FACETS is created in a series of black surrounding flats hungwith rugs and textiles from many cultures. The costumes and props are authentic from the various culturesexplored, Native and indigenous costumes from North America andf Southeast Asia, and simple clothing to bringhome the idea that Shakespeare is relevant to now; music that is different but basic to music now.

TARGET AUDIENCE [i.e.: Seniors, multi-cultural groups, etc.]: Junior High School students.

CAST [see Bios]: Robert Greenwood (actor) and [Mr.] Dana Luebke (dancer-actor)
