In 1987 a group of Mareeba citizens founded the Community Youth Support Scheme, and it is unlikely that they could have predicted that the training organisation for disengaged youth would evolve into the organisation that QITE is today. Throughout our history we have seen ‘change’ as a constant factor on our landscape, and this remains as true today as ever.

The Cultural Values Index has been created to ensure that all QITE staff have clear understanding of the expectations and standards of behaviour which are required - regardless of the change which may be happening in our organisation.

Certainly, the previous values have served us well, but it is clear that the time has arrived for these to be refreshed and reinvented so that QITE as an organisation, and a team, can move ahead into the next phase of our ‘modern history’’.

The Cultural Values Index makes the implicit explicit - it provides each of us with the tools to reflect on our own behaviour and to consider how our actions may impact on others.

The culmination of many hours of work by QITE’s Executive Team, this document and the standards included herewith have been carefully scripted to provide a guide for staff, and to reinvigorate the culture of our organisation. The values will not only inform our actions, but will support us in strengthening our language and culture of learning, improvement, respect and dignity.

Q.I.T.E.’s achievements over the past 30 years:

• Grown from an initial staff of four to over 75 in 2017 and become one of the largest employment organisations in FNQ.• Expanded its branches to better serve the needs of the Tablelands community. We now operate in 8 locations - Mareeba, Atherton, Cairns, Innisfail, Ravenshoe, Tully, Yarrabah and Mossman.• Matched employers small and large with suitably experienced and skilled staff, including hundreds of workers to help growers harvest their crops.• Been selected by the Commonwealth Governments to deliver programs including Jobactive, Harvest Labour Services and others.• Diversified its scope and range of services to respond to the needs of individuals, job seekers, employers, industry and the wider community including creating a long day care centre QTs in September 2009.

Message from the ChairmanAny anniversary is a milestone, but to reach 30 years in a very challenging business is truly a cause for celebration.

QITE has for 30 years been helping the most disadvantaged in our community obtain and retain employment - we are in the business of giving people the dignity of independence.

This organisation has not only stayed the distance, but continues to excel, now being a 5- star provider of employment services - one of the best in Australia.

Our success has been the product of constant, tireless dedication by everyone who has worked with us. It has also been the product of the vision and passion of those who have led the organisation over the years, most notably our former Chairman Tito Srhoj, former Chief Executive Officer and now Deputy Mayor of Tablelands Regional Council - Katrina Spies, our present General Manager Jillian Trout, our Board and our entire Management team.

For me it’s an honour and a privilege to be part of this outstanding organisation. Let’s see how far we can take QITE in the next 30 years.....

Since the start of the new jobactive contract in July 2015:

• QITE has employed 279 staff (including Labour Hire employees) and paid out a total of $6,361,432.00 in wages.• QT’s Early Learning has employed 29 staff and paid out a total of $1.477,157.00 in wages.• Placed a total of 3,019 jobseekers into work via the Jobactive program. Approximately one third have remained in work for more than 12 weeks. • Our main cohorts are Indigenous jobseekers (1429), jobseekers with a Disability (705) and Mature Age jobseekers (844) • We have placed a total of 1,211 indigenous jobseekers into employment. • Placed a further 704 people through its Harvest Labour Services in the first 2 years of this contract. • Issued 1,670 tickets for Passenger Transport Services to get people to and from work.

OUR VALUES

QITE 2017-18 Operational Plan

It is an absolute pleasure and a privilege to be involved in QITE’s 30th birthday year - since being employed with QITE 15 years ago I have seen many changes with different contracts, different government policy decisions and many staff changes.

Throughout this time the one constant has been the mission and vision of QITE to help the most disadvantaged to make positive changes in the community and this is the reason I am very proud to be employed to lead such an amazing team of committed staff, who each and every day do above and beyond to help others less fortunate than themselves. This job is not always easy, but is always satisfying and staff who have been here for a period of time know the effort and involvement that is required in achieving great results such as 5 stars and running an outstanding Child care centre.

We as a team have achieved a lot over 30 years and I would like to thank the Board for their commitment and dedication particularly Peter Apel our current Chair and a big thank you to Tito Srhoj and Katrina Spies who have mentored me along the way.

QITE is a very diverse organisation that is still going strong and will continue to do so for many years to come.

Thank you.

Mareeba Shire Job Training Association Inc. was established to provide services to the youth of Mareeba under the Community Youth Support Scheme CYSS.

The Federal Government funding for CYSS ceased and was substituted by the Skill Share Program

The second term of our Case Management contract saw our organisation gain an additional contract to service the Ravenshoe area. It was announced that the Skill Share program would cease. In the same year we registered the business name “Quality Industry Training”.

As a reflection of our move to be a major employment and training provider we registered our business name “Quality Industry Training and Employment”, which has been abbreviated to Q.I.T.E. In the same year Q.I.T.E. was awarded the major Job Network contract on the Tablelands, offering Job Matching, Job Search Training and intensive assistance from Mareeba, Atherton and Ravenshoe, including outreach services.

In early 2006 Q.I.T.E. successfully applied for CDEP (Community Development Employment Program) business, which ran until 2009, and also received a grant under the Cyclone Larry Work Placements & Disaster Relief Project with the aim to provide jobs for local jobseekers.

Q.I.T.E. celebrates its 21st birthday and continues to provide a variety of services across the Atherton Tablelands, like the CDEP and Farm Force programs, Life Coaching and literacy and numeracy service. Q.I.T.E. implements our Social Inclusion Agenda.Job Services Australia contract (finished 2015).

Q.I.T.E. farewelled Chairman Tito Srhoj after 23 years of service and welcomed the new Chairman Peter Apel.
