BATTITO ARCHITETTURA.Architecture Searching Development

Battito Architettura is an architectural firm founded in 2013 by Germano Rovetta and Derek Andrea Piemonti focused on issues related to the shape and matter.

approach ...

Shape and matter draw their inspiration from dual relationship with contemporary language and the site of project.A careful glance to the architectural contemporary debate finds its application about specific site of project where the la-yering identifies and determines the formal composition of architectural objects. Formal expression is driven by innovation and application of new technologies.

ARCHITECTURE:The discipline of architecture is the field of investigation, application and operation about formal principles of composition through the building technologies. The architectural area of interest becomes a multidisciplinary incubator, which conveys the many facets of today’s complex society.

SEARCHING:The research is fundamental tool to the investigations of discipline essential to the understanding of trends and future development. This also took place outside of architecture; artistic disciplines such as painting, sculpture and photography are related fields of inquiry, in which approach and methodology are an inexhaustible source of study and inspiration.

DEVELOPMENT:Architecture is developing. The pro-ject is intended as an instrument of progress that contributes to the improvement of landscape. As a human work, architecture is a sensitive and elegant gesture, which must leave a mark sustainable for fu-ture generations.

The project area is a rectangle slightly along the northe-ast direction. Thanks to an unusual ground plan allows ample green spaces oriented to the west, where it is pla-ced pedestrian access and a driveway access. There are two common green areas, a kitchen garden to the north and a play space for children to the south. The unit resi-dential typology is on two levels above ground line (du-plex type). On the ground level there are two entrances: one on the main front and one on the back, where it is expected the private parking space. The main entrance leads into a large space that includes the kitchen, the dining room and the living room. Later you go to an area equipped with laundry bordering with the bathroom. The second level features two patios, the first in the di-stribution space or sitting area, the second in the ba-throom. The sleeping area consists of three different ro-oms: double, twin and single. On the flat roof are placed photovoltaic systems and solar thermal systems; there is also a small wind turbine.

The project area is allocated on the main road in Manerbio that connects to Brescia and Cremona. Is characterized by its location close to the core of the city. The area is part of the result of the demolition of the Casa Cantoniera and a disused industrial building. The project takes ad-vantage of the commercial building on the west boundary to build in compliance so as to free as green as possible. Volumetrically the project aims in a compact manner and is intended to better climatic exposure, with the main fronts facing south, the access driveway and parking spaces on the opposite side. Typologically the project is composed of 2 distinct residential installations, 3 resi-dences are located on the ground floor and 3 residences are located on the first floor, served by a scale of exclu-sive access. Both types are composed of kitchen, dining, living room, three bedrooms, bathroom and laundry. The distinction of the same is determined from the garden for the residences on the ground floor and two terraces for residences on the first floor.

preservation and re-use

The project is the recovery of an historical consolidated building. The farm is the clear expression of the relation-ship between material culture and the place of where it fits. The type encapsulates the residence and workplace. The original building satisfies the requirements of work and residence. The project don’t change the spatial rela-tionships but applies little modifies in the direction of the needs of a contemporary residence, the day living spaces on the ground floor and on the upper floors for the night spaces. The solutions adopted limit the impact on the pre-existing building. The restoration retains all the exi-sting elements, the spatial and textural, occupying only a new space in the old barn, entering a suspended vo-lume, adapting to toilet to large bedroom that looks out through a new system of windows on farming courtyard thanks to the double height of the porch. The volumetric ratios are not altered, thus restoring the topicality ori-ginality of the building. The building blocks are returned to their original definition. The brick, wood and plaster are the materials that characterize the farm and also the project. The limited new entries textural, using the same materials, through a new formal definition to allow a separate read between the original parts and new. The project aims to be the linking element between the past and the future, through a delicate relationship with the old and the new needs of contemporary life.

The restoration building, located near the “Castelletto” and via Dante, the main artery leading to Brescia, inserts a new function in existing buildings intended to accom-modate a bed and breakfast. The building typology, al-ready the subject of transformation in the mid-80s, is well suited to the new insertion function: different levels facing the street that enclose the courtyard and the old barn, so they are revisited through a targeted job rede-sign and functional adaptation, which emphasizes the typological and morphological quality of the building. The intervention thereby maintaining the structural sy-stem, and through targeted operation on openings, on the inclusion of new technological systems and the use of new materials such as iron and wood, transformed this space into an intimate and confidential. The project will then ask in a sensitive place in a stratified, while it has lost many of its features the oldest, the other expresses a specific atmosphere, mainly characterized by the im-posing presence of the “Castelletto”.

The single-storey building is based on a typical residen-tial aggregated online or in pairs. The main spaces oc-cupying a gross floor area (SLP) of 85.00 square meters. The usable area of the floor is a total of 77.00 square me-ters. At these are added two opposed porch that can turn into filters to mitigate against solar radiation and serve as a further element of protection and privacy from the outside world. The block consists is characterized by a gable roof which allow the rapid drainage of rainwater. The overhang of the roofs opposite also determines the dimensions of the spaces in porch. Typologically the re-sidence consists of a living/dining room. The spaces are divided from the kitchen through a wall equipped. The kitchen leads to a bathroom/laundry room. The sleeping area consists of three bedrooms and its toilet.

religious buildings

The architecture of crematorium was founded on the combination about site and the strong sense that it re-presents. The simplicity volumes and materials defines the relationship with the very sensitive, deep and delica-te theme, both human and technological. Designed archi-tecture, quiet and elegant, wants to respect the sacred-ness of the place employing placed materials and colors. Functional program and site, gave birth to the creation of a path. That starting from the garden of memory to con-duce at the large memorial hall. A path that isn’t intended solely as a functional solution but an intimate journey of the human soul.

urban and square

The project of Mons. Bianchi square and Dante street developed a new urban design, where the old Roman ro-ute, Dante street, complete its path into the open spa-ce of Mons. Bianchi square. Historical and stratigraphic lectures, brings the project to identify and regenerate new spatial relationships. On one hand Dante street re-mains the major route of entry to the city, the square on the other hand, is reinterpreted like an element of head and final axle connective. Everything in connection with church and its churchyard. Project lines are identified by a new design of the open space that enhances their cha-racteristics, functional as well as a new open space and at the same time intimate and confidential. Overall urban design does not alter the natural patterns of the soil, put some elements for new plantings and a water veil. Water as a sign of remembrance of the ancient irrigation ditches still present in the subsurface

The tertiary building takes in his compositional process the infrastructure theme. Placed on the axis of the main connection to the city, entrance from the airport and connection to the old city. This generate a new relation of accessibility: a slow, who comes from the city and a fast who arrive from the airport. Architectural artefact, parallel to the axis of the main connection, presents the great coverage as a summary of accessibility; closed to the airport and opened along the side of the city. Cove-rage generates a different speed-sensitive perspective from both sides that allow different access. The long ramp and the faster steps, converge in the great hall at different speeds. The entrance is designed as a quad-height volume capable of connecting all floors of the building. It is precisely this space, which condenses and makes it possible to perceive immediately the functions contained within the building.

The project, office space, enhances the characteristics of the place where it ranks. The floor-to-ceiling windows facing the North and South sides become main theme of the project idea. Leading spaces are placed along these fronts where they enjoy great contribution of light and exterior spaces. The spaces are separated by glass and semi matt surfaces, these providing a semi transparency very important for the relationship between colleagues. The project meets the functional and spatial require-ments.

private house:

The construction of pool in this holiday residence, crea-ted the overall reorganization of the entire architectural structure, determining new relationships with outdoor spaces. The lake view serves as a privileged look across the landscape and building relates. This creates other more intimate spaces at different altitudes. Located on the highest point of the slope the pool volume determi-nes a patio collected at lower altitude, from where you can access at all different interior levels of residence. The old shelters have been replaced by portals that un-derlie the relationship with the spectacular geography of site.

preservation and re-use:

The project, located in the historic center of Verolanuova (Bs), develops the theme of the rehabilitation of historic buildings. The project idea is developed on a dual track: on the one hand the maintenance of the “enclosure”, in other words, the farm in its conformation typical type and, on the other hand, the new internal distribution that maintains a direct relationship with the external space, reinterpreting the ancient relationship porch/barnyard, by revisiting the porch facing south, a characteristic ele-ment of these agricultural types, no longer used for the-se functions, into a new element glazed double height that today also functions by mitigation system micro-environmental, as well as by characterizing element of the entire project.

The small residence, located on the ground floor of a six-teenth-century building in the historic center of the city, characterized by a single punch with windows facing south, addresses the functional requirements, leaving a ‘one day open space and a small upper loft, where place-ment is space night. The whole project turns its attention to all elements of specific detail, which interact with the ancient stonework and brick brought to light. The rela-tionship between ancient and contemporary is so new symbiosis between shape and matter.

The perimeter walls askew are the distinguishing feature of the new space and with it, the new function that will accommodate. These walls form a distorted and dynami-cs spatiality. This reading of the existing space, genera-te a project idea that through a single element, the bar counter, that determines and completes the space. This generates diversified spaces for bartenders and custo-mers. The project effort was aimed at the development of design detail, handcrafted furnishings and finishing.
