  • 7/31/2019 Workshop on Cloud Computing for Knowledge Management and Innovation

    1/2

Cloud Computing has been gaining rapid adoption in the past few years and has started to

generate transformational effects to many businesses and industries. However, the fundamentals

of the Cloud are still not fully understood by many people. Indeed, many confined the Cloud to be

merely some kind of on-demand IT infrastructure and as such principally leveraged by many

organisations for cost savings, productivity enhancements, and applications consolidation. While it

is certainly true that many of the critical issues involved in Cloud deployment, for example,

deployment models, security of data, migration, service level agreements, cross border flow of

information etc., still remain to be resolved, the full power of the Cloud is increasingly being seen

as a revolutionary and disruptive business game changer. In particular, the Clouds impact on

Knowledge Work and Business Innovations have not been fully realised.

Up to now, much of the focus on the Cloud is on its ability to deliver scalable IT infrastructure

thereby enabling an organisation to be more cost competitive and agile. There has been

insufficient research into how the Cloud, together with the users, the connections and the

embedded intelligence can deliver a paradigmatic shift to business model design, knowledgework, risk reduction and service innovations. This workshop will cover the Adolescent Cloud, the

Knowledge Cloud, the Human Cloud, and the Intelligent Cloud and showcase how they can

support Knowledge Work (which includes communications, collaboration, learning) and Service

Innovations (which includes dynamic capabilities, co-creation of values, idea sourcing). Among

others, concept and systems for Cloud-based Sourcing, Open Innovations and Competitions will

be illustrated with examples. Participants will gain clear insights on how to leverage the Cloud for

productivity gains, delegation of work, expertise location, collaboration, learning, idea sourcing,

and to apply Cloudsourcing for risk reduction. This is not a technical workshop; it is business and

    application oriented.
