thThe workshop on critical care nutrition is hosted and organised by IAPEN – Srinagar Regional Centre on 11 September at Gastroenterology Department, Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Soura, Bemina, Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir 190011

In order to promote Advanced Education in Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition and to facilitate the academic pursuits of more number of Nutrition Support Clinicians, Clinical Nutritionists, Nurses and Pharma from the educational institutions, hospitals and health care settings, IAPEN announces Workshop on Critical Care Nutrition at 26 different locations throughout India, Nepal and Bangladesh.

Nutrition is an integral part of healing and maintenance of health. The workshop was designed for medical, nursing & nutrition professionals who were interested in learning nutrition assessment tools, early enteral nutrition, approaches to parenteral nutrition, immunonutrition, disease specific nutrition for fighting againist Iatrogenic Malnutrition. The workshop also contains hands on training on Nutritional calculations, Enteral Diet, Parenteral Nutrition Products handling and mixing and Enteral Nutrition Devices.

About Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar is the largest city and the summer capital of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. It lies in the Kashmir Valley on the banks of the Jhelum River, a tributary of the Indus, and Dal and Anchar lakes. The city is famous for its gardens, waterfronts and houseboats. It is also known for traditional Kashmiri handicrafts and dried fruits.

Srinagar is one of several places that have been called the "Venice of the East" or the "Kashmiri Venice" Lakes around the city include Dal Lake – noted for its houseboats – and Nigeen Lake. Apart from Dal lake and Nigeen lake city is also famous for wular lake and manasbal lake to the north of srinagar. Wular lake is one of the largest fresh water lakes in Asia.

The floating vegetable market on Dal Lake, the only one of its kind in India

Dal Lake and the shikaras.

Srinagar has some Mughal gardens, forming a part of those laid by the Mughal emperors across the Indian subcontinent. Those of Srinagar and its close vicinity include Chashma Shahi (the royal fountains); Pari Mahal (the palace of the fairies); Nishat Bagh (the garden of spring); Shalimar Bagh; the Naseem Bagh. Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Botanical Garden is a botanical garden in the city, set up in 1969. The Indian government has included these gardens under "Mughal Gardens of Jammu and Kashmir" in the tentative list for sites to be included in world Heritage sites. The Sher Garhi Palace houses administrative buildings from the state government.[citation needed] Another palace of the Maharajas, the Gulab Bhavan, has now become the Lalit Grand Palace hotel. The Shankaracharya Temple which lies on a hill top in the middle of the city, besides the Kheer Bhawani Temple are important Hindu temples in the city.

Srinagar has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen Cfa), much cooler than what is found in much of the rest of India, due to its moderately high elevation and northerly position. The valley is surrounded by the Himalayas on all sides. Winters are cool, with daytime temperature averaging to 2.5 °C (36.5 °F), and drops below freezing point at night. Moderate to heavy snowfall occurs in winter and the highway connecting Srinagar with the rest of India faces frequent blockades due to icy roads and avalanches. Summers are warm with a July daytime average of 24.1 °C (75.4 °F). The average annual rainfall is around 720 millimetres (28 in). Spring is the wettest season while autumn is the driest. The highest temperature reliably recorded is 38.3 °C (100.9 °F) and the lowest is −20.0 °C (−4.0 °F).

Shalimar, Nishat and Chashm-e-Shahi constitute the famous Mughal Gardens of Srinagar. They are known as much for their architectural exquisiteness as for the history that surrounds them. It was in the 17th century that Shalimar Bagh (garden) was built as a summer residence and royal court. The silvery white Hazratbal Mosque is revered for housing a relic, the Prophet’s hair. Situated near the Dal Lake, the only domed mosque in Srinagar is a place of serenity, a must visit. Women are allowed only till the first part of the mosque. The Hazratbal Mosque lends a historic and divine appeal to Srinagar. As you walk down the corridors of this famous religious sanctum, you marvel at the intricate Persian and Iranian architectural influences. Many devout followers visit the shrines, mosques and temples of Srinagar every year. Jama Masjid is the main mosque built in the 14th century by Sikander Butshikan. Architecturally unique, this monument has spires instead of domes and minarets. Interestingly, each of the 350 pillars of Jama Masjid is made from a single deodar trunk.
