The structure and content of the social sciences and their information system & collections are closely interrelated with the social systems of the country itself (i.e., educational system, societal structures, parliamentary and legal system, social services);

Therefore, the organization and representation of the content, is often very individual

6

However, certain international similarities can be distinguished - which can also in part be attributed to the impact of new technology in both the field itself and in information work

With the increased use of the Internet, national or linguistic limitations do present subject-oriented challenges to the social sciences librarian;

7

These affect not only the methods and instruments used for information retrieval and acquisition, but also the development of value-added services which can place appropriate information in the correct context and provide targeted information in a vastly expanding field.

8

The primary impact of new technology in the social science libraries is thus in the realm of expanded access to a wider variety of international sources based on access via the Internet on a fairly up to date basis.

This impact requires network skills, new methods of information retrieval and presentation (or brokering), and often involves the librarian in creating and designing new systems applications to facilitate adequate information services

Hence, A Sample Study Is an attempt to present the Information

System in a changing perspective with the emergence of new technological impact;

Therefore: It processes the information in an innovative

way; It exposes the hidden information which are

part of the Web resources; It presents the information system in a new

perspective with value added services

Gateways In ancient times, the Library of Alexandria

was seen as a universal store of human knowledge. As the Library grew in size,

however, it became increasingly difficult to locate relevant material. The poet Callimachus solved the problem by

compiling a catalogue called The Pinakes. On a far smaller scale, these Web pages

hope to provide a similar function for Internet resources, by linking to the major

subject gateways
